One of the many colorful groups of Ballet Folklorico performers from all around the Republica de Mexico parading in the streets and on the Malecon of Puerto Vallarta yesterday.

Coming from an appointment at the other end of town our traffic was re-directed away from a very colorful crowd of people. I caught glimpses of Ballet Folklore dancers, horses, caballeros and musicians, and although i only had my iPhone 4 with me, we stopped... i ran and mingled with the parade and came away inspired and excited.... plus with some 75 shots of Colorful Mexico!!
We spent a wonderful day in this fishing village "La Cruz de Huanacaxtle"... only 40 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, in the Bahia de Banderas, Nayarit. I photographed fishing boats galore (((:... and freshly caught, huge Tuna fish being brought in to sell at the market. We had some thick tuna fillets cut for us, right there at Market.... and I am Google'ing right now for how to best cook them.....

Amazing vistas from the hills on the south end of Puerto Vallarta in Amapas: view of Conchas Chinas beach towards Mismaloya and the Tres Arcos (the 3 arched rocks)!

It surely looks like somewhere in the Mediterranean, but here in Mexico the hills and mountains (only a few minutes walk from where I had taken this shot today) are really wild and exotic jungles, natural habitat for palm trees and parrots! Higher up and deeper into the Sierra Madre mountains you might even encounter a puma or a tiger ((:

no title, because:

strangely.... about an hour after i took this what was supposed to be a 'fun-expressing' shot of my sandals on this beautiful beach, i got tumbled pretty badly in 2 HUGE CONSECUTIVE WAVES !! It's scary when you are being tumbled under water like a tennis ball in the rough cycle of a washing machine... or a ping pong ball in a mixer... not knowing if you are even facing up or down. I came out alright but everyone at the beach seeing this was holding their breath! It was red flag day!!! So please, everyone, do check the flags and don't think you have the big waves timed right.... like when to walk out after your swim, these big waves can come as surprises... and even 2 in a row!!!!!

Somehow... this shot will always have a different meaning for me now ((:
Ritterfest at the Ronneburg, a 14 th century Castle in the Wetterau,Hesse, Germany!
Here we spent an entire afternoon discovering all the nooks and niches of this gorgeous castle, Ronneburg, drinking Mulled Wine, eating meat on spears, mixing with the Knights in armor and the vendors and visitors dressed in medieval garb. I also climbed to the highest outlook of the tower shooting the landscapes in 4 directions with my hands covered in begger gloves....... It was a fabulous experience all bundled up for the bitter cold!!!

San Sebastian del Oeste - el Pueblo Magico

San Sebastian del Oeste was nominated- and named Pueblo Magico in 2011, one of the 65 "Pueblo's Magicos" (Magic Towns) of Mexico!! A 1 1/2 hr drive only from Puerto Vallarta... from Palm trees to Pine trees, San Sebastian del Oeste is nestled in a small valley in the High Sierras of Jalisco.

San Sebastián del Oeste was founded in 1605 after the mines in this area were discovered.
It was one the main mining centres in the New Spain during the Colonial period. By 1785, ten gold and silver reduction haciendas and nearly 30 mines had been established there. The small town became a city in 1812, and reached its full maturitv around 1830. San Sebastian's productivity was halted by the 1910 military revolution, and soon after, foreign companies in charge of mining works moved to other areas. The last mine was abandoned 1921, and San Sebastian fell into complete oblivion. Nowadays, its main economic activities involve agriculture, stockbreeding, increasing tourism and to a lesser degree, forestry.

The town is crossed by a river, on whose banks several XVIII and XIX century foundries were established. Building materials and structural solutions inherited from traditional Spanish architecture resulted in the use of large retaining walls and baseboards to protect buildings from moisture. Features such as public squares, like the Main Plaza and the Consistorial or Bone Plaza, winding alleyways, original stone pavements, plastered mud-brick walls, archways, attics and wooden and tile roofs are part of an integrated typology and constitute the town's distinctive traits.
