Taken by photographer, John O'Brien, who noted that weather conditions were dull.

You can compare this view of the Sawmill at Foynes with its companion photo taken approximately 100 years earlier as part of the Lawrence Photographic Project 1990/1991, where one thousand photographs from the Lawrence Collection in the National Library of Ireland were replicated a hundred years later by a team of volunteer photographers, thereby creating a record of the changing face of the selected locations all over Ireland.

Think from the next one in this series, that it's just downstream (depending on your point of view) of the Old Weir Bridge in Killarney…

5 members of Waterford Boat Club, with their awards.

The gentleman seated on the left has been identified by Brendan J. Grogan as his great uncle, Austin Farrell, 1872-1934.

Austin Farrell appears also as cox in another Waterford Boat Club photo (circa 1880s?), and in this Waterford Chamber of Commerce photo from May 1930.

While not exactly on a par with white water rafting in the Grand Canyon, this still must have been a pretty exciting excursion for these tourists at Killarney, Co. Kerry.

Thanks to all who helped us pinpoint this location, and gave us the name of this bridge - the Old Weir Bridge.
