For obvious reasons, no cars crowding this modern photo either - and a nice connection with our Marconi Wireless Room from a few weeks ago!

Taken by photographer, Arthur Spears, who noted:
The Tower is known as a Lloyds Watching Station, built in 1805. The Marconi Station (where the men are standing in the original photograph) is now in ruins. The third structure on the extreme left of the photograph is an Irish Army 'Look Out Post'. LOPs were built during World War II during the 'Emergency' .

I think that graffiti on the Marconi Station (in the middle) is declaring the undying love of Fergal and Maureen...

Joefuz has been dying to identify some modern cars for ages, hence this amazing outpouring of vehicle knowledge:
"I can see 3 Austin Montegos, 4 Vauxhall Novas, an Astramax van, 2 Ford Escorts (one might be an XR3i), a Renault Traffic van, an RUC Tangi Landrover, a Ford Sierra, a Toyota Liteace, a Mitsubishi Colt, a C Class Mercedes, I think the nose of an Austin Mini Maestro, a Transit van, a Renault 5, a Renault 4 van, a Suzuki Swift, 2 Fiat Pandas and a Nissan Bluebird. The dark grey tail on the right foreground might be a Ford Cortina. The blue car behind the Transit van might be a Peugeot estate. The red car behind the Astramax van might be a Ford Sierra (face lift version, so newer than the one on the other side of the road. The blue car parked in the middle 3rd along might be a 4th Montego. The car being towed by the recovery truck looks to be an old mercedes. The green car in the foreground I think is a Triumph."

A momentous occasion captured by photographer Ronan Lang. This is President-elect Mary Robinson, flanked by defeated Fianna Fáil candidate Brian Lenihan and Taoiseach Charles Haughey, making her acceptance speech at the R.D.S., Dublin.

Mary Robinson was the seventh President of Ireland, and the first woman ever to hold that position. She received 52.79% of votes, while Brian Lenihan received 47.21%.
