Miss Anderson, but which one?

Just love this one! Everything seems so glossy and shiny - the horses' coats, their hooves - even the windows are gleaming.

Very smartly turned out in their riding gear are these two young ladies at Grace Dieu Lodge, Clogheen, Co. Waterford. We had this photograph titled as the Misses Anderson, but from all the research below, it looks as if there was only one Miss Anderson connected with Grace Dieu Lodge at this time - Miss Susan Alice Anderson (1881-1941), who would have been about 26 when this photo was taken.

Date: Early September 1907

It looks as if some quite stylish ladies have just alighted from a train at Limerick Railway Station, though they're of no interest to local children who are completely focused on the photographer.

Delighted to see a poster in this one that gives us great dating evidence as it advertises the International Exhibition, with a Fast Excursion to Dublin on Tuesday 23rd, though unfortunately can't make out the month. The International Exhibition ran in Dublin from May to November 1907.
April 29, 1907

National Library of Ireland on The Commons posted a photo:

The original glass plate negative is a little ill, to say the least, but couldn't resist this one for the obvious glamour of the wedding party. All that we originally knew about this photo was that it was probably the wedding of Miss Watts of Bonmahon, Co. Waterford. This may be the Watts family who had copper mining concerns at Bonmahon (Bunmahon).

Confirmation about the wedding has come in from DannyM8, along with a very dramatic and quite tragic local story. See the comments below for detail. But now we know that Miss Watts was Emily Blanche Watts (1878-1960?), known as Blanche, who married Thomas Francis Buckley. I've added notes on the photos on the couple who were presumably the bride and groom, and on maybe Blanche's mother and brother, based on 1901 census information provided by DannyM8.

Completely stealing the title for this one from Little Women where Amy uses the term that the March family's household helper, Hannah, used for Mr. Laurence's Char-a-Banc.

This gorgeous touring car is pictured outside a hotel at Leenane (sometimes aka Leenaun), Co. Galway. From other photos in this sequence, the reg. no. of this vehicle is either IM 180 or 181. The touring car was provided by Commercial Cars in Luton, and the tour itself was in conjunction with the Midland Great Western Railway of Ireland Company, and the route was Clifden-Westport.

Said this morning that if anyone could identify the hotel, it would make an old Library very happy... Niall McAuley did just that with his identification of this hotel as the Leenane Hotel!

This photo is one of a series that was commissioned by Provincial Bank in Waterford, all of properties along or near Barronstrand Street. This was probably for very mundane commercial purposes, but has left us with a photo of a lovely array of spick and span businesses from nos. 1 to 5 Barronstrand Street…

No. 1 was Gorman Chemists on the ground floor, while the upstairs windows were used to advertise a heady mix of Horse & Cattle Medicines and photographic supplies.
At no. 2 was Ward's Saddlery, with a gorgeous display of Cunard and White Star Line signs for travel to Canada, Liverpool...
No. 3 (getting a wash and brush up from the chap on a ladder) was Joseph Knox, which at this stage was a general and hardware shop. However, from the middle of the 20th century, Joseph Knox became a very high-end seller of Waterford Crystal to Irish and overseas buyers. The owners retired in 2006 and this premises is now a Tommy Hilfiger shop.
At No. 4 was O'Leary & Co. who seem to have sold all kinds of everything, and proudly announced that they had another branch at 12 & 13 Barronstrand Street.
We only get a glimpse of No. 5, but it also seems to be offering household and garden hardware including scrubbing boards at "enormous reductions". Have since found No. 5 in another photo, and it's Purcell & Co., Brush Stores and Irish Made Goods Depot.
Tunnel Cottage, Glengariff

National Library of Ireland on The Commons posted a photo:

Tourists motoring past Tunnel Cottage or Long Tunnel Cottage, Glengariff, Co. Cork.

This cottage was a well-known watering hole and stopping off point for tourists. Just along the road in front of this motor car (which we originally thought was reg. no. IC 2043, i.e. Carlow registered, but now think is LC 2043, i.e. English registered) is the long tunnel that gave the cottage its name. Hope that they're visible, but in the background are a lady and gentlemen cylist heading in the other directions, perhaps fortified by the refreshments on offer. Listed on the board are Mineral Waters; Ginger Beer; Ginger Ale; Lemonade; Soda and Milk. Wonder if there was anything stronger on offer?

Heartfelt thanks to Bob Montgomery 2012 for the following:
"I have a postcard of this photograph and have always believed it to be of a car competing in one of the Irish Automobile Club's Irish Reliability Trials in the period 1906-1909. We have a large number of photographs of these events in the RIAC Archive. However, on looking at the enlarged version of this photograph, I'm not so sure. The two passengers front and back on the right hand side of the car are female and this does not tie in with a competitor in the Trials in which the two back seat passengers would have been male 'Observers'.

Likewise the registration you give for this car - IC 2043 - does not appear to be correct. The Irish Motor Directory confirms that there were only 51 cars and 66 motorcycles registered in County Carlow by 1911 so this registration was still a long way from being issued. (I would suggest the car is 1907/8). More research needed!"

So, we now need to find out when LC 2043 would have been issued to a car in Britain...
