I think a larger f-stop would give the sparkles a better appearance. Will experiment more on this next time. This shot was at f/10, 1/640. ISO 100.

Had a little 'break' from work, went out to the sea/beach with my family on the first day of holiday (Holy Thursday) with some recollection of thoughts and rest. Just love the peaceful view of the horizon, the reflections of light from the 3 pm summer sun so bright. It had been raining the previous day, we're favored with a good weather this day.

I was riding a bike when I saw the sun, went immediately to a higher building I know nearby (market site). Good thing I had my camera with me. But I was a bit late. The sun previously been in a better appearance and form.

Overlooking the ferry boat to dock at the pier of Tabaco in Albay, PH. This same ferry would go back to the island of Catanduanes more than an hour later. I noticed the pack or bundles of trays on that side. Heard these trays contained smoked fish (Tinapa) which will be shipped to Catanduanes. I just thought that there should be better manner or method of handling it rather than being exposed to the elements.

I should have taken some more photos at the vicinities but my camera went dead, no more battery...how I forgot to bring a spare or a charger on that trip. well, I thought I would have no much time for photo shoots, now I learned another lesson...:( Maraming namamatay sa maling akala trans. Too many people die because of "I thought..." boink!

Btw, we're heading again to hot season. The northeast monsoon winds (cold wind) is beginning to wane.

Most number of vehicular accidents and casualties in the island are on motorbikes. Reasons could be 1. Drunk driving, 2. Texting while driving, 3. Over-speeding, 4. No helmet. The government has become stricter on the wearing of helmets beginning this year, which should bear the sticker (ICC) from the Bureau of Products standards. But the enforcement of this law in the island (along with other land transportation laws) are only occasional, usually when the Land Transportation Office operatives coming from the mainland/regional office do some spot checking along the highways here.

The site where the first cross was planted in Catanduanes and was built over the burial place of Augustinian priest Fray Diego de Herrera in 1576 who died in barangay Batalay. A spring of clear water sprouted near the cross, believed to have healing powers, which the natives regarded as an unusual phenomenon.

Another legend says that the death of Fray Diego de Herrera brought supernatural punishment to the natives for killing a holy man. The punishment was in the form of school of swordfish, which attacked and killed many of the natives. The survivors retreated inland, some finally settled near the Bato River and the others went back to Batalay after the incident. After many years, From 1840 to 1860, Bishop Grijalvo of Nueva Caceres ordered a monument to be constructed over the grave of Fray Diego de Herrera, the site of which could not be located. It took many attempts to plant a cross on the right spot because no cross would stand, it was noted to be uprooted every sunrise, when finally one morning the cross did not fall to the ground that caught the natives in surprise, the natives dug beneath where the cross stood and found a human skeleton supposed to be the remains of the famous martyr. From then on, pilgrims placed it on the pained parts of their body, others brought with them oil and many came with empty bottles to be filled with the miraculous water from the spring.

Today, an unfinished shrine stands on the occasion of the fourth Centennial Celebration of the death of Fray Diego de Herrera, a decree was signed, declaring the Holy Cross of Batalay a Diocesan Shrine with the right to hold a Liturgical celebration on the last Friday of April of every year. Thus, Batalay,Bato, Catanduenes became a historical landmark.

Tried long exposure with my small camera. Had series of shots, this one was the least blurry. :)

This is one of the tributaries feeding the supply of water to Baras poblacion. We went to this watershed purposely for a tree planting activity.

Batalay, Bato, Catanduanes (Unfinished Shrine)

The site of the first cross in Catanduanes, believed to have been constructed over the grave of the shipwrecked Fr. Diego de Herrera of the Augustinian order in 1576, who died in the barangay of Batalay.

Its main feature is a well, which is believed to have water with healing powers. From the town proper of Bato, it would take only 15 minutes to reach this place.

Felt so sorry I was not able to take a picture of the well, the building was already closed when I dropped by here at past 5pm.
