Strobist: See my blog for in depth tutorials - Composite shot. The forground was lit with 5 flashes, all camera right, some were direct, others were bounced for fill light. The background was lit with two flashes, one outside a window from the right, another bounced off the ceiling from inside to provide fill light.

Believe it or not, I shot this from well within Salt Lake City. I was in the middle of Liberty Park. Just goes to show just how isolated and frontier all of Utah still is. It's literally a city in the mountains.

Two were aimed at a white background, the third from camera left fired threw a large piece of diffusion fabric. The foreground image was then composited with 3 other images to complete the scene.

I photographed this way back at the end of May 2011 when I was living and working in the Pittsburgh area. I initially passed over this shot and didn't think too much of it until just a few days ago. I took a whack at editing it. Surprise! It was a real diamond in the rough. I wish it were lower ISO and shot on a tripod, but oh well... the noise adds to the drama. Fine with me!
