The reason behind the Egyptian protests

Popeyee posted a photo:

Ahmed’s Story.

Last Year, I travelled to Egypt on holiday. We were on a cruise on the Nile, visiting the Pyramids, Temples, Tombs, Museums etc. We visited all the beautiful places that all tourists usually go. But i wanted to get a feel of the real Egypt. So whenever possible I go for a walk through the small streets and villages. It was on one of the walks that i met this young man, Ahmed.

Ahmed was having lunch in a small street side restaurant. I smiled and said Hello. He smiled back. I asked if I could take a photo. He said Ok. Ahmed speaks little English. So we started chatting. Ahmed is 25 years old. He is educated but doesn’t have a proper job. He does whatever work comes along now and then. He said he wants to get married. But he needs to find a proper job and make some money before he can get a girl for marriage.

Ahmed showed me what he was eating. It was 'Eesh baladi', the Egyptian local bread with some gravy to dip the bread. We chatted for a while about a few things. He seemed like a nice simple man. He asked me what I was doing in this small street with a camera. I said I wanted to understand the life and culture of the people of Egypt and was walking around taking pictures. When he finished his lunch, he asked me if I would like to visit his house. He lived nearby with his mom and dad. I gladly took the invitation to visit his house.

His Dad was sitting in the front room reading a newspaper and his Mom was inside praying. His house had almost nothing. Their only assets were some Pigeons and two Donkeys. We spent some time talking about life in Egypt and he was frustrated with his situation. No job, No money, No opportunities, No Idea what to do.

Theyyam (Theyyattam or Thira) is a popular Hindu ritual form of worship of North Malabar in Kerala, India. As a living cult with several thousand-year-old traditions, rituals and customs, it embraces almost all the castes and classes of the Hindu religion in this region. People of this region consider Theyyam itself as a God and they seek blessings from Theyyam.
