E5001/71001 is the only survivor of its class, or the class 74 rebuilds. These were a straight electric (overhead or 3rd rail) locomotive built for the Southern Region.

Whilst the LNER had their A4 streamliners, the rival LMS fitted streamlined casings to some of their locomotives. 46229, currently out of service, has been given a streamlined casing as a reminder of the LMS style.

Class 09s were 08s regeared to allow faster higher speeds; 27mph rather than 20mph if memory serves. 09017 is owned by the NRM as a working shunter, rather than an exhibit.

The Mid Norfolk Railway recently held a Class 47 gala, with several visiting examples. All trains were top and tailed to speed the reversal at Wymondham. 47798 is one of two Class 47s used on the Royal Train before they were replaced by class 67s. They were given a royal plum livery, which 47798 still carries.

60103 alias the Flying Scotsman, is arguably the most famous steam locomotive in the world. Currently a kit of parts, what there is of it was displayed at Railfest.

47798 is part of the national collection, but is still mainline registered. This allows it to move exhibits around the network, as well as operating charter trains.

46201 took part in the Queens jubilee celebrations by appearing on Chelsea Bridge as the royal flotilla passed underneath. It then made its way to York to be an exhibit at Railfest.

"Teddy" is a 0-4-0 Saddle tank locomotive that is part of the NRM collection. I had not seen it before Railfest, so I assume that it has been loaned out to another railway at some time.

Amongst the Locomotives brought to Railfest was Class 50, Thunderer. Its been repainted since I last saw it, the shade of blue looks a little darker than BR Blue to me.

40122, as D200, was one of the first mainline diesels to be delivered as part of the modernisation plan. It was in the diesel tent at Railfest, however it looks like it needs some TLC.

City of Truro was the first locomotive to achieve 100mph, and because of that was selected for preservation when withdrawn by BR.

The Brighton Belle was the most luxurious multiple unit train of its day, maybe of any day. It last ran on the mainline in 1972. However most of the coaches were sold on to preserved lines or as static restaurants. This has enabled the 5BEL trust to accumulate enough cars to start restoration of a complete 5 car train to mainline standards. Car 88 was one of the first to be completed, and was shown at Railfest.

41001 was one of the power cars on the prototype HST, the iconic High Speed Train. It has recently begun a rebuild to working conditon.

37119 was the first Class 37 to be delivered, and was selected for preservation when withdrawn. At Railfest it worked demonstration trains with City of Truro.
