Crewe War Memorial, 9th August 2005
My Miami band Rebel Crewe recorded a song about the move called "Brother Judas". The song is available as a free download from www.myspace.com/rebelcrewe.
A list of names as they appeared on these no-longer-extant plaques (they have been replaced with new ones) can be found at Carlscam, which is run by Carl Rogerson of Hyde, Cheshire, here.
The always-interesting "Crewe Blog" posted some information on the fate of these name plates on 6th Feb 2008. Apparently, there's to be a public consultation. Right.

Time difference between camera settings time and clockface on Big Bill due to my camera being set to Miami, Florida time: a five hour difference. The memorial, reportedly one of only two in the UK representing Britannia, has now been moved from the square and radically altered in the process. The clock tower shown here is currently slated for demolition.

War Memorials, the guidelines say, should not be moved unless there is a clear and compelling reason. 11,000 Crewe residents believed there was no such reason.
