Russian Lada cars were extremely popular in Finland in the 70's. Apparently, they still are.

This is Lada 2105 which was introduced in 1980 and is in production even nowadays. It's the cheapest car in Russia (as of the first quarter of 2010, brand new 2105 costs a mere EUR 4 thousand).

The owner of this car is a member of the Lada Club of Finland (ladakerho.fi). The club holds regular meetings among its members (around 600 of them).

It's been raining cats and dogs the last several days. It's usually calm in the morning but the closer to the evening, the worse it gets.

There is a set of two tunnels going under the highway, approaching Pyhäjärvi or "holy lake". This is the last of those tunnels, on the other side is the lake.

I was very surprised during my very first visit to Finland to find slot machines everywhere I went. No kidding. There are probably more slot machines than saunas in Finland. There isn't a grocery store, even the smallest kind, without at least one such machine. Glued to that machine there is a Finn, that goes without saying.

Last five minutes in the Pohja apartment. I've lived here for about six months only, but still it feels like a lifetime. I grew attached to the tiny town in the middle of nowhere with a forest any way you look.

This flower hasn't yet matured into a hip, even though it's about time already. It was a single flower, and there were plenty of Rosa cantina shrubs around.

The picture was taken on Boulevard de Ménilmontant, not far from the Porte des Amandiers entrance to Cimetière du Père Lachaise (Père Lachaise Cemetery).

Flower Castle

Hermann Castle is located in Narva, eastern Estonia, overlooking Narva River which separates Estonia and Russia.

On the other side of the river there stands Ivangorod Fortress.

I decided not to include the river in the shot, as it is usually done by almost everyone, but rather show how tiny the castle appears swallowed by thick vegetation around it. Merely a toy, it actually looks pretty fierce up close.

This dragonfly did make me chase it as I couldn't shoot from afar with 24-70. In the end, I managed to take a couple of good pictures of it. My first insect photo.

Sadly, Canon EF 24-70 doesn't offer 1:1 macro. It's still possible to achieve nice level of detail with the available 1:3.5.

These flowers are truly beautiful and there are so many of them growing along the highways in Finland. They don't look that good for long though. Soon they'll pass their prime, become withered and dull.

I took quite a few shots of Lupins, but this one should have the most interesting composition - flower in the background mirroring the one in focus.
