Snake Charmers at the Boat Quay just beside Stamford Raffles' statue. I wasn't quick enough to sketch tourists who posed with the snakes... there are two, a Singapore Python and a Albino python (yellow in color). I got acquainted with them later and asked to sketch the snake up close. They agreed and I was sitting just behind the basket. While I was at it, the brown python that I was sketching slipped away, but only half way out. One of the snake charmer put it back into the basket and closed the lid. I have to paint it by memory.

This man who sat in front of me chomped down his brunch in 2 mins. I could barely finish drawing the rest if his body. Added wash when he left.

I am waiting for my car to be serviced. So chilling in the coffeeshop along Sin Ming Drive. A good way to wait is to sketch.

I used Instagram to take a picture of my sketch. The white balance and some brownish efx was added by the APP on iPhone. The drawing was done in less than 5 mins, if you were wondering how long was I going to delay my wife's lunch, and the painting was done even before my lunch arrived. It took longer than usual for my pasta to come but I thought sketching and painting before a meal was better for me... relax first before I eat.

This is the infamous Chwee Kueh (steamed rice flour made in the shape of a small saucer not more than 5cm in diameter) stall because they serve the best Chai Poh (minced and braised radish in oil) in town. The stall owner, a lady in her 50s or early 60s went to the restroom as I was about to sketch her in... and I finished the sketch before she returned.

Most people do not feel comfortable when they are sketched, cause they cannot handle the additional attention given to them. Usually I avoided sketching people direct just in case they are not happy about it. However this time round, I plucked up enough confidence to do it. I approached a fish seller at Chinatown Food Center and acknowledged him by asking him whether I could draw him in action and to make sure I was not in the way. When he did not object, I went straight into it. Uncle must have done this for years. Every fish he cleaned and sliced took him only within the minute. In no time, he has cleaned and cut like 8 on the aluminum table top and stashed them away in foam boxes filled with ice. And we are not talking about small fishes but each one of these measured to about a metre and more in length.

The first page of a new sketchbook I have started using. This sketch was done in the comfort of sitting in the car with the AC turned on, but of course the engine is still running. I know it is bad for the environment but this is the best way to avoid the sweltering heat.
