In Islam, after one month of fasting each day from sunrise to sunset, Eid-ul-Fitr - the first day of next month - is forbidden for fasting, and all Muslims celebrate it with sweeties, cookies fruit juices and other halal drinks.

Eid ul-Fitr (Arabic: عيد الفطر, Persian: عید فطر), often abbreviated as simply Eid, sometimes spelled Eid al-Fitr, is an Islamic holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting. Fitr means "to break the fast" and therefore symbolizes the breaking of the fasting period. On the day of the celebration, a typical Muslim family gets up very early and attends special prayers held only for the occasion in mosques, in large open areas, stadiums or arenas. The prayer is generally short, and is followed by a khutba. The festivities and merriment start after the prayers with visits to the homes of friends and relatives and thanking God for all blessings. Eid is a time to come together as a community and to renew friendship and family ties. This is a time for peace for all Muslims in the world to devote to prayers and mutual well-being.

It is a joyous occasion with important religious significance. Happiness is observed as attaining spiritual uplift after a month of fasting. Muslims dress in holiday attire. After attending the special congregational prayer in the morning, worshippers greet and embrace each other in a spirit of peace, love, and brotherhood. Visiting friends and relatives is common.

For Muslims, Eid ul-Fitr is a joyful celebration of the achievement of enhanced piety. It is a day of forgiveness, moral victory and peace, of congregation, fellowship, brotherhood and unity. Muslims are not only celebrating the end of fasting, but thanking God for the help and strength that they believe He gave them throughout the previous month to help them practice self-control.

History
The first Eid was celebrated in 624 CE by the Prophet Muhammad with his companions and relatives over the completion a month of fasting.

Timing
The holiday follows the month of Ramadan, falling on the first day of Shawwal (the tenth month in the Islamic calendar). As with all months in the Islamic calendar, it begins with the sighting of the new moon, although some people choose to use scientific calculations instead of a confirmed visual sighting.

Because the day depends on the sighting of the moon, the sighting could only be possible just before the sunset. Most check with local mosques or other members of the community to see if the moon has been sighted by authoritative parties. In Malaysia, they are using both sighting of the moon and astronomical calculation to verify the date. But the calculation is only used to verify the sighting of the moon (i.e. the exact time of the visibilty of the moon). For this reason there may be regional differences in the exact date of Eid, with some Muslims fasting for 29 days and some for 30 days.

Eid ul-Fitr commemorates the end of the month of Ramadan. Fasting is forbidden on this day as it marks the end of the month-long fast of Ramadan. A Muslim is encouraged to rise early and partake of a light snack such as dates before then attending morning prayers with family members in the local community mosque.

Traditions and practices
Common greetings during this three-day festival are the Arabic greeting "Eid mubarak" or "Eid saeed" which, loosely translated, mean "Happy Eid!". In addition, many countries have their own greetings based on local language and traditions.

Muslims are encouraged to dress in their best clothes, new if possible, and to attend a special Eid prayer that is performed in congregation at mosques or open areas like fields, squares etc. When Muslims finish their fast at the last day (29th or 30th Ramadan), they congregate to recite Takbir:

The Takbir is recited after confirmation that the moon of Shawwal is sighted on the eve of the last day of Ramadan. It continues until the start of the Eid prayer. Before the Eid prayer begins every Muslim (man, women or child) must pay Zakat al Fitr, an alms for the month of Ramadan. This equates to about 2 kg of a basic foodstuff (wheat, barley, dates, raisins, etc.), or its cash equivalent, and is typically collected at the mosque. This is distributed to needy local Muslims prior to the start of the Eid prayer. It can be given anytime during the month of Ramadan and is often given early, so the recipient can utilise it for Eid purchases. This is distinct from Zakat based on their wealth, which must be paid to a worthy charity.

The Eid prayer (salah) is followed by the khutba (sermon) and then a prayer (dua') asking for forgiveness, mercy and help for the plight of Muslims across the world. It is then customary to embrace the persons sitting on either side of you as well as your relatives, friends and acquaintances.

Muslims spend the day thanking the Creator for all their blessings, as well as just having fun and enjoying themselves. Children are normally given gifts or money. Women (particularly relations) are normally given special gifts by their loved ones. Eid is also the time for reconciliations. Feuds or disputes, especially between family members, are often settled on Eid.

Eid -e- Fetr in Iran
In the predominantly Shia culture of Iran, Eid is a highly personal event, and celebrations are often more muted. Called Eideh Fitr by most Iraninans, charity is important on that day. Typically, each Muslim family gives food to those in need. Often meat or ghorbani, which is an expensive food item in Iran, will be given by those in wealthier families to those who have less. Payment of fitra is obligatory for each Muslim. The tradition in many families holds that for each member of your household on the day of Eid, one person outside of your family needs to be fed. Many Iranian families have chelo kabab, which is skewered meat served with white rice, grilled tomatoes, herbs and yogurt on that day. Thanking God for all blessings is top on the list of activities for the day. The day is a national holiday. So most people spend the day at home or visiting family or going for outings in the areas around the big cities.

Eid ul-Fitr in the United States and Canada
Typically, the end of Ramadan is announced via e-mail, postings on websites, or chain phone calls to all members of a Muslim community. Working persons usually attempt to make arrangements for a lighter work day on the days that may possibly be the Eid day, but many North American Muslims are often noted to not be able to take the entire day off.

Typically, a Muslim family in the United States or Canada will wake up very early in the morning and have a small breakfast. Next the family will go to the nearest congregational prayer group to pray. The prayer may be held at the local mosque, a hotel ballroom, local arena or stadium. Often these prayers are held in shifts; for example, the first prayer would at 7 am, the second at 9 am, and the third at 11 am. After prayers, the family members disperse to school or work accordingly, or head home to prepare celebrations if they managed to get the day off. Depending on the nation, Muslims in North America tend to celebrate different traditions, yet most of these are based off of similar customs which are simply followed out differently in each individual country.

Since every family has a different work related situation, some Muslims may attempt to take the entire day off to spend it as a family. A few other families may have to ask for a partial day off, or in many cases, not take the work day off at all due to the importance of their job in terms of the family's fianancial situation or in terms of importance to the company itself, though this does not generally occur due to being denied the time off work as this goes against religious freedom laws in both nations. Because North American Muslims come from all parts of the world, one particular type of food cannot be identified as served on this day. Many Muslim North American families visit the homes of others to congregate on a day of celebration.

Happy Ramadan

The 4th pillar of Islam is practiced during the month of Ramadan. Ramadan is derived from an Arabic word for intense heat and scorched ground and shortness of rations. (in Arabic: رمضان, Ramaḍān) – – and it is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar (Hijri calender), established in the year 638 CE. It is considered the most venerated, blessed and spiritually-beneficial month of the Islamic year. Prayers, fasting, charity, and self-accountability are especially stressed at this time; religious observances associated with Ramadan are kept throughout the month.

"Ramadan is the month during which the Qur'an was revealed, providing guidance for the people, clear teachings, and the statute book. "Those of you who witness this month shall fast therein. Those who are ill or traveling may substitute the same number of other days. Allah wishes for you convenience, not hardship, that you may fulfill your obligations, and to glorify Allah for guiding you, and to express your appreciation."[2:185]

Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Power/Measure/Decree) is considered the most holy night during Ramadan. Muslims believe that it was the night of the Laylat al-Qadr that the Quran's first verse was revealed. The exact night of the Laylat al-Qadr is unknown. Abu Bakr, who was a companion of Prophet Muhammad indicated that it was one of the last ten odd nights of Ramadan.

Practices during Ramadan
Fasting
The most prominent event of this month is the fasting practiced by most observant Muslims. The fasting during Ramadan has been so predominant in defining the month that some have been led to believe the name of this month, Ramadan, is the name of Islamic fasting, when in reality the Arabic term for fasting is Sawm. Every day during the month of Ramadan, Muslims around the world break their fast when the fourth prayer of the day, Maghrib (sunset), is due. They eat before the sun comes up at a certain time and after a certain time during the night. Because nothing is permitted to pass the lips, smoking and fellatio are also banned.
Proscriptions and prescriptions during Ramadan
During Ramadan, Muslims are also expected to put more effort into following the teachings of Islam as well as refraining from anger, envy, greed, lust, sarcastic retorts, backbiting, and gossip. They are encouraged to read the Qur'an. Sexual intercourse during fasting in the day is not allowed but is permissible after the fast (when referring to sexual intercourse, it is intended to mean with one's spouse alone, as all pre- and extra-marital relations are strictly forbidden in Islam). Obscene and irreligious sights and sounds are to be avoided. Purity of both thought and action is important. The fast is intended to be an exacting act of deep personal worship in which Muslims seek a raised level of closeness to God. The act of fasting is said to redirect the heart away from worldly activities, its purpose being to cleanse the inner soul and free it from harm. Properly observing the fast is supposed to induce a comfortable feeling of peace and calm. It also allows Muslims to practice self-discipline, sacrifice, as well as sympathy for those who are less fortunate, intending to make Muslims more generous and charitable.

In addition to fasting, Muslims are encouraged to read the entire Qur'an.

Sunni Muslims tend to perform the recitation of the entire Qur'an by means of special prayers, called Tarawih, which are held in the mosques every night of the month, during which a whole section of the Qur'an (‘Juz', which is 1/30 of the Qur'an) is recited, so that by the end of the month the entire Qur'an has been completed. Tarawih is an Arabic phrase referring to those extra prayers. This prayer is performed after salah of Isha'a. Sunnis believe it is customary to attempt a khatm (complete recitation) of the Qur'an in Ramadan by reciting at least one juz per night in Tarawih. These are done in remembrance of the fact that the revelation of the Qur'an to Prophet Muhammad was begun during Ramadan.

Shia Muslims view this prayer as a Bid'ah and caution all to stay away from it. Instead of performing Tarawih, Shia Muslims perform the night prayer during Ramadan just like any other night. This night prayer performed every night is called Qiyam al-layl, better known as Tahajjud.[1] It must be noted, that Shia and Sunni Muslims attempt to read the entire Qur'an by the end of the month.

Today was anniversary of Ayatollah Taleghani, a real Muslim cleric in my opinion.
This is the main door of his house in Taleghan, which now is a private museum.

Ayatollah Mahmoud Taleghani

(1911 - September 9, 1979) was an Iranian theologian, Muslim reformer and a senior Shia cleric of Iran. He was born in the town of Taleqan in the Alborz mountains. He was considered a moderate and supporter og People's Mujahedin of Iran in his views: he declared the headscarf as not being a mandatory part of hijab, among other opinions.

Taleghani died in 1979 after the revolution of Iran. He was the first Imam for Friday Prayer in Tehran after the fall of Iran's interim government.

Taleghani and Iran's eventual Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Musavi Khomeini were clerical and ideological contemporaries within Iran's Shia resistance movement during the rule of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.

سید محمود علایی طالقانی در یک شب بسیار سرد زمستانی در دهکدهٔ گلیرد طالقان بدنیا آمد. ورق‌های تقویم، ۱۵ اسفند ماه سال ۱۲۸۹ را نشان می‌دادند. گلیرد یکی از دهات طالقان است. ایشان اولین فرزند پسر خانواده بود. وقتی به سن پنج سالگی رسید او را به مکتب‌خانه گلیرد نزد ملا سید تقی اورازانی فرستادند. او در سال اول، خواندن قران را آموخت. در سال دوم، کتاب «موش و گربه» اثر عبید زاکانی را شروع کرد. سید محمود در سن هفت سالگی سواد خواندن و نوشتن را کامل آموخت. در همان سن پدرش تصمیم گرفت به تهران مهاجرت کنند و به خانه‌ای کوچک در محلهٔ قنات آباد تهران رفت. وقتی به سن ده سالگی رسید، بنا به درخواست پدر برای تکمیل علوم دینی به شهر مقدس قم رفت. پدر دربارهٔ سید محمود به آیت‌الله حاج شیخ حائری سفارش کرد. سید محمود در ابتدا به مدرسه رضویه رفت و سپس وارد مدرسهٔ فیضیه شد. در سال ۱۳۱۰ پدر ایشان مریض شدند و دارفانی را وداع گفتند. در همان سال به نجف اشرف رفت و از اساتید معروف بهره برد و پس از شش سال از عالم بزرگ آیت‌الله اصفهانی اجازهٔ اجتهاد گرفت و به ایران بازگشت. او به قم رفت و از آیت‌الله حائری اجازه اجتهاد و از آیت‌الله مرعشی اجازهٔ حدیث گرفت.

سپس جلساتی برای عده‌ای از جوانان تشکیل داد. او در آن سال‌ها از طرفی به ادامهٔ تحصیل پرداخت و از طرفی مشغول آموزش به جوانان شد. به این ترتیب رسماً وارد مبارزه با رژیم و برای اولین بار توسط مأموران رضاخان دستگیر و به شش ماه حبس محکوم شد. در سال ۱۳۲۰ بود که کانون اسلام را در خیابان امیریه تشکیل داد و در همین سال مجله‌ای به نام دانش‌آموز نیز برای اولین بار از سوی روحانیت انتشار یافت.

مسجد هدایت. ابتدا مقبرهٔ خاندان هدایت بود. آقای طالقانی در سال ۱۳۲۷ رسماً امام جماعت مسجد هدایت شد. بعد از سال ۱۳۳۲، اعضای انجمن اسلامی مهندسان و نمازگزاران پول تهیه و مسجد را بازسازی کردند. از همان سال اول تفسیر قرآن آقای طالقانی در آن مسجد شروع شد: مسجد هدایت علاوه بر جلسه تفسیر و صحبت‌های آقای طالقانی، محل دیدار دانشجویان هم بود. آنها به مناسبت‌های مختلف در مسجد جمع می‌شدند و به صحبت‌های آقای طالقانی گوش می‌دادند. در سال ۱۳۳۸، آقای طالقانی به همراه عده‌ای از دوستان، به نمایندی از آیت‌الله بروجردی برای رساندن پیام به ایشان به شخی شلتوت، شخی دانشگاه الازهر و مفتی مصر به آن کشور رفت. هدف از آن سفر، نزدیکی بیش‌تر با علمای شیعه و اهل تسنن بود. چند سال بعد آقای طالقانی برای شرکت در کنفرانس دیگری به همراه عده‌ای دیگر به بیت‌المقدس مسافرت کرد. یکی از ک ارهای مهمی که آقای طالقانی در سال ۱۳۴۰ انجام داد حضور در هیأت مؤسس نهضت آزادی ایران بود. مهندس مهدی بازرگان و دکتر یدالله سحابی عضو نهضت آزادی را تشکیل می‌دادند.

آقای طالقانی در مسجد هدایت به همراه آقای مطهری به تحلیل مسایل اجتماعی و افشاگری کارهای رژیم می‌پرداخت. اعلامیه‌های معروف آیت‌الله طالقانی معروف به دیکتاتور خون می‌ریزد در صدها نسخه انتشار یافت و بعدها برایش پرونده‌ای شد که او را به ده سال زندان محکوم کردند. آقای طالقانی پس از گذشت پنج سال از مدت محکومیت در روز نهم آبان سال ۱۳۴۶ از زندان قصر آزاد شدند. بعد از بسته شدن مسجد هدایت آقای طالقانی به مبارزات مخفی پرداخت و بار دیگر در سال ۱۳۴۹ شور و حال عجیبی به مسجد هدایت داد. سپس او را دستگیر کردند و او را با هواپیما به زاهدان تبعید کردند و به همراه مأموری به زابل رفت. در همان سال‌ها گروهی به نام سازمان مجاهدین خلق وارد مبارزات مسلحانه شدند. آقای طالقانی در روزهای آخر سال ۱۳۵۶، بدترین دوران زندان خود را گذراند. سپس در هشتم آبان‌ماه سال ۱۳۵۷ آزاد شد. یکی از مهمترین نظرات آقای طالقانی بعد از انقلاب طرح مسأله شوراها بود. اولین نماز جمعه تهران به امامت ایشان در ۵ مرداد ماه در دانشگاه تهران برگزار شد و سپس ایشان به عنوان نمایندهٔ مردم در مجلس خبرگان انتخاب شد و عاقبت در ۱۹ شهریور سال ۱۳۵۸ از دنیا رفت.

Mount Tochal is a mountain in the Alborz range and adjacent to metropolitan Tehran, Iran. The mountain has a 12 km long ridgeline. The highest peak, also called Mount Tochal, is at an elevation of 3,964 m (13,005 feet) and at coordinates 35.88° N 51.42° E. A seven station gondola lift runs from Tehran to the Tochal Ski Resort and a modern hotel. Tochal is a popular recreational region for Tehran's residents.

Shah Mosque (in Persian: ﻣﺴﺠﺪ ﺷﺎﻩ, Masjed-e Shāh) is a mosque in Isfahan (Eşfahān), Iran standing in south side of Naghsh-i Jahan Square. It has been renamed to Imam Mosque after Islamic Revolution.

Built during the Safavids period, it is an excellent example of Islamic architecture of Iran, and regarded as the masterpiece of Persian Architecture. The Imam Mosque of Esfahan is one of the everlasting masterpieces of architecture in Iran and all over the world. It is registered along with the Naghsh-i Jahan Square as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its construction began in 1611, and its splendor is mainly due to the beauty of its seven-color mosaic tiles and calligraphic inscriptions.
