On the 22nd May 2013, Stanier Princess Coronation class Pacific no. 46233 'Duchess of Sutherland' works hard on the long climb to Ais Gill Summit with the 'Cumbrian Mountain Express' charter and is seen here approaching Birkett Common, south of Kirkby Stephen, as a fortunate shaft of light illuminates the locomotive.

On the 14th May 2013, Jubilee no. 45699 'Galatea' worked a loaded test train, consisting of ten coaches and a Class 47 diesel on the rear (47760) around the Carnforth-Hellifield-Blackburn-Preston-Carnforth circuit and it is pictured here towards the top of Eldroth Bank at Braithwaite that day.

'Braunton' at Lumb Woods

Charging through Lumb Woods on the 27th April 2013, West Country Pacific no. 34046 'Braunton' hauls the 10.00 service train off Heywood towards its destination at Rawtenstall.

The locomotive was declared a 'failure' that evening and was unable to work its rostered services on the 28th April. It appears that its return to the main line for charter operations will be further delayed.

Spring shows little sign of making an appearance at this location!
