Lately I've been missing the habit I got into last year of carrying my camera around everywhere (as part of my 365 project), so I decided kind of spur of the moment to bring my camera to work with me today. It turned out to be the perfect day to shoot daffodils by the Charles River in the evening sun.

Before we returned home from Washington DC after our trip a few weeks ago, we drove down to Williamsburg to visit some dear friends from graduate school who we have not seen in a long time. They have a son who is not too many months younger than Isaac, and as you can see they were immediate friends. A few more in comments.

Panda Breakfast, National Zoo

March was a bit of a crazy month for me, filled with long hours at work. My time for photography declined dramatically, and my time for Flickr vanished altogether. But things are a bit calmer now, and I've missed seeing what all my Flickr friends are up to, so I'm making a renewed effort to post and comment.

First up in the backlog of photos to share are some shots from the National Zoo. One of the conferences I attend regularly is in Washington DC every few years, at a hotel located very close to the zoo. This year my family came along, and we spent a lot of time watching the animals at the zoo. On our last morning in DC we were lucky enough to see the pandas outside snacking on some bamboo (+1 in comments).

Orangutan Highway

First up in the backlog of photos to share are some shots from the National Zoo. One of the conferences I attend regularly is in Washington DC every few years, at a hotel located very close to the zoo. This year my family came along, and we spent a lot of time watching the animals at the zoo. The National Zoo has a set of ropes and towers set up to connect the primate house to the primate enrichment center, and the orangutans are free to travel from one building to another, over the heads of zoogoers, whenever they want. One of the coolest things I've ever seen in a zoo is this orangutan making her way overhead to the primate house.

Boston Love

With the tragedy today at the Boston marathon finish line, I wanted to post a tribute to this city I love. I think this is one of the best shots I've taken of the Boston skyline. I originally posted this as part of my 366 project last year, but since then I've reworked it some so I hope you all don't mind me sharing again.

My thoughts go out to all the runners and spectators caught in the terrible explosions, their families and friends, and everyone in this dear city caught in the tragedy today.

Storrow Drive Light Trails

This is another shot that had on my list for my 366 project last year, but never got around to shooting: light trails on Storrow Drive in Boston, taken from the pedestrian bridge over the road. A couple of weeks ago I went on a photowalk with my cousin (who is taking a photography class at her high school and wanted some tips), which presented the perfect opportunity to set up this shot. I have to admit I kind of wish I had had my 10-22 mm lens instead of just my 28 mm, but I'm pretty happy with the result nonetheless.

Blizzard Party

One more from this weekend's blizzard. It was amazing how many people were out and about in Davis Square after the snow stopped on Saturday afternoon. Even though pretty much everything was closed (the exceptions being the liquor store, the convenience store, and Amesterdam Falafel), the square was crowded with neighbors walking around. The giant snowman building party (pictures coming soon) certainly helped, of course.
