She feels them growing, forming, becoming thoughts that might later work themselves into sentences to be spoken aloud.

Now, they are nothing but jagged letters with sharp edged corners poking at her, making her uncomfortable. She can’t seem to put them together in any way that softens them.

She soon realizes they will always be hard and sharp. They will always be hard to get out.

It might be easier to keep them inside, let them remain a struggling mess of letters and sounds that will hurt no one but her.

chest heaving,

childhood dreams,
dusty and (almost) forgotten dreams,
nothing here is as it seems.
Her head is tightly tucked between her knees,
telling herself that none of this is Real,
but Real is all that she can see.
If she can't see them they can't see her . . .
A child's concrete confusion is her eternal conclusion

I didn't even have to touch it. The cement appeared to have been laid quite some time ago (this was taken in November 2010), but the leaves seemed to all match so perfectly and the way that the fallen leaf simply seemed to be exactly where it belonged. It was really striking, and honestly, it still baffles me a little, even if it's just a weird coincidence. It appeared so perfect... I actually thought this was a Canon shot till I saw the EXIF...! It's an iPhone 3GS...! :)
