Star Trails at Gwithian Beach

James Lewis Natural History Photography posted a photo:

A night spent camping with friends at Gwithian Beach, West Cornwall was too good an opportunity to miss when I knew there would be a rare clear and starry night at a location with little light pollution.

This shot is made up of nearly 300 25 second exposures, layered in photoshop. I set it up at midnight and by 02:30, the sky had already begun to lighten. I left it until 04:00, but the last fifty shots are over-exposed and unusable. In the background the iconic Godrevy lighthouse can be seen.

Whilst the camera was running we slept under the stars, and at 5:30, just before the sun rose over the hill in the right of picture, I grabbed my board and went for a sunrise surf.

A truly memorable experience.

Anyway, thanks for viewing - I hope you like it.

Best viewed on black - press 'l'

A four shot panorama, each shot taken at 12mm, this kind of has a squashed perspective, but there's no other way to capture the incredible views. This was taken in between Corn Du's peak (left) and Pen-Y-Fan's peak (right).

I used a ND8 grad to keep the sky detail and stitched the shots on Photoshop.
Taken from a pub car park one evening, this is one of the spectacular views we were fortunate to have whilst camping in the Brecon Beacons. It is near the town of Crickhowell in Powys. Unfortunately for all of the camping trip, except the day we left, the weather was grey and cloudy.
Spanish Sunrise

James Lewis Natural History Photography posted a photo:

Accompanied by my friend Rosy, we went for a walk to watch the sunrise. I took my camera with my 50mm f/1.8 lens attached (a lens which I am now in love with) and we set off. I think I stopped about twice throughout the whole walk to take photos, not because the scenery or sunrise wasn't good, but because I know how consumed I can get with my photography - usually to the annoyance of those around me. I took about 4 shots overall and wasn't convinced they were any good, but when I looked at them on my laptop screen, I was very pleased with the results.

Shot at f/3.2

#127 on explore
Thanks for viewing, have a good day,
Falmouth - St. Mawes Star Trails

James Lewis Natural History Photography posted a photo:

Made up of 150 30 second exposures at 11mm, this shot was taken looking over towards St. Mawes from very near Pendennis castle. After a boring day in which I did nothing, I suddenly realised about 10pm that it would be a clear night. So I headed out at 11:30pm looking for somewhere a new view to shoot.

The original spot I went to had a full moon in the way as well as ships on the horizon, so I drove round and came to this spot. The north star just happened to be in this direction, so it all seemed to come together well.

A boat - probably a fishing vessel - can be seen crossing the foreground of the shot as well as a shooting star - or some other galatic light - crossing on the right side. If it was a plane, it would flash through out the shot.
