Middle Grey

Dennis Rademaker posted a photo:

My wife and I decided to do one more "Photo vacation" now its still only the two of us, yes thats right, There is a third on the way!

During our vacation we had a couple of days in Yellowstone. On a certain day Sandra and myself drove towards Lamar valley where wolf activity had been pretty high the last few days. We came across a group of wolf researchers and they told us about a bull elk carcass about half a mile from the road. Soon we spotted the carcass and the 9 wolves switching turns in taking bites off of it. Later on the wolves headed back a little to rest and coyotes and ravens took over the carcass.

A couple of minutes later Sandra and I noticed a coyote walking towards a stream wich is between the carcass and the road. We decided to follow the animal in the hope it would come a little closer to the road.
As soon as it popped out of the stream we figured it was a little too big for a coyote so I used my camera to get a closer look.... "IT'S A WOLF" sounded through the car.
The wolf slowly came our way and crossed the road onto a small hill. She gave one more look backwards so we could have a very beautiful view of her bloody face.

The wolf goes under the name "Middle Grey" and is part of the Lamar Valley Pack as we heard from the researchers later that day.

After my previous upload I decided to upload another image of the big bull moose I encountered while on trip in the U.S.
I personally think the other image is a bit nicer due to the movement and splatter of the water droplets. But I also did not want to keep this shot away from you, so here it is!

At the end of last year, I visited Minneapolis, US for 8 weeks.
As I was there for buisiness I only had my spare time to go out and photograph.
During two weekends, My wife (who joined me for 5 weeks) and I headed up north towards Grand Marais.
From Grand Marais there is a trail, the Gunflint trail, that leads north towards the Canadian border and takes about an hour to two hours to drive up or down.
During those weekends we went back empty handed with no real worthy shots, just a real great time to remember!

This year, I got a new chance to go to Minneapolis again so I did not hesitate before agreeing with this assignment. During last weekend I went up north for two days again to try my luck once more.
The first day was a real downer, lots of rain, gray weather and no animals to be seen. The second day started of not so great either and after driving the trail up and down a couple of times I decided to give up and head back for the 5 hour drive back to Minneapolis.

10 minutes into my drive down the trail this big black blob caught my eye, there he was, the animal I dreamt of seeing and if I got lucky, maybe a picture or 2 of this animal in the distance.
But NO!, this beautiful animal was within 30 meters from me (100ft)! and was calmly searching for waterplants in this swampy area. Everytime it lifted his head out of the water he drooled all over, hence the name, Moose Drool.
I was able to observe the animal for about an hour before it went off back into the woods again. This time I got lucky!

[Explored]" />

It has been too long of a time since my last Flickr post. Due to time issues and lack of Flickr worthy shots I think it was time for a small break, but Im back!

Lots of things have changed in the meantime, as some of you may remember, Sandra and I got engaged last year, and now almost a year later we got married! I am the lucky man who is able to call her my wife! Our wedding was on September 15th in a small castle here in Holland, and like they say, it really was the best day in our lives!
Two days later we went on our honeymoon to the Malaysian part of Borneo. This was to be our best "vacation" ever!

Snack Time;

During our stay in Danum Valley, we encountered this wild Orang utan while on a jungle walk. The animal swooshed from tree to tree to get to a vig tree where he started to climb up to the fruits. With its 4 limbs, each with a "hand" with opposable thumb, it seemed effortless for him to climb 100ft high.

During his way down he stopped for a split second in this beautiful setting while being a little backlit .

More images of our journey on the way!!

And so it begins, Sandra Lucas and I are both into photography and both into diving, so what does that combination create? Underwater photographers. Sandra and I decided to invest in a relatively "cheap" underwater photography set before heading over the very expensive underwater housings for our 1DIV + lenses. We bought a Canon G12 (to keep full control over the settings) with a Canon WP-DC34 water housing, a Sea&Sea YS-02 flash unit and A Sea&Sea Arm VII.

Yesterday we had our very first dive together without a guide. We decided to make the dive at the "Vinkeveense plassen".

After being in the almost freezing water (4C) for 20 minutes, it was time to head back to shore. On our way back we encountered this fresh water crawfish. And so it begins.....

First of all Sandra and I want to wish everyone all the best for 2012!

It has been a while since my last upload, and a lot has happend in the meantime. Just to give an example, Sandra and I got engaged on the bottom of the Indian ocean in October!

Exactly 1 year ago, Sandra and I were in the Czech Republic to celibrate New Year. On the first of January we were able to photograph our very first Ural Owl

Today, exactly 1 year later while in the U.S. for buisiness, Sandra Lucas and I shot our very first (WILD!) Snowy owl!

At this moment there is no snow here so the owl cannot rely on its white camouflage colors. Instead the owl decided to hide behind a log.

Make sure to take a look at Sandra's stream, she'll upload one of her images as well!

This evening my partner, Sandra Lucas, and me decided to head towards "De Hoge Veluwe, to see the Red Deer rut, but we stumbled upon a 14km traffic jam. Plans changed, and we went to see "our" Tawny owl. Once there we saw there were two owls sitting in the opening!

With a shutterspeed of 8 seconds at ISO 1600, I think the shot is pretty good =D

Sandra's image will be on Flickr soon!

Due to knee surgery 2 weeks ago (for the second time in 2 months), I need to keep it easy, so need to do the photography from the car :(

Sandra and I are having an exposition in "Rietveld & Ruys", Bergeijk.
We would like to invite everyone (ofcourse especially Dutch people) to come and view our work over there! for more info, visit my website.

Sometimes you find some interesting images while browsing through some older work, same for this one.

A couple of years ago I visited this Tawny Owl together with HvHe1. I like this image because you can see that the owl just enjoys the beautiful spring colors and is gathering some energy out of it.

In 2 weeks I will visit Montenegro together with my girlfriend, Sandra Lucas. I will try some more landscapes there, this because my landscape and 'nature' images were pretty highly faved and commented (THANKS!!) and made it into the top 10 on explore!

During my visit in the Bavarian forest together with HvHe1, we saw something which I think is rarely seen, two Lynxes mating..

The weather conditions were pretty tough, heavy snowstorms and really low temperatures. So the Lynxes decided to 'warm up' a bit. Next year we visited the forest, we heard that the old guy didn't live long enough for us to capture him with our cameras again.
The weather conditions were pretty tough, heavy snowstorms and really low temperatures. So the Lynxes decided to 'warm up' a bit. Next year we visited the forest, we heard that the old guy didn't live long enough for us to capture him with our cameras again.

During my visit in the North Western part of the U.S. My brother and me paid a visit to the Upper Antelope Canyon. Wow how amazing was that! The way that the floods carved out the canyons was really magnificent. As for the light beams... It took some time to caputre them with no other people (tourists) in the frame. And the beams only exist for a couple of seconds so I had to be fast!

Another image from my 2010 U.S. trip. It was early, my brother and I packed our stuff and and headed towards monument Valley.
At the end of last year, my brother and I paid a visit to the North Western part of the U.S.
Starting off in Boise ID followed by:
Arches N.P. UT
Monument Valley UT
Antelope Canyon AZ
Grand Canyon North Rim AZ
Grand Canyon South Rim AZ
Las Vegas NV,
Yellowstone N.P. MT
Grand Teton N.P. WY
and ending in Boise ID again... Man it was worth the 7300Km (4500 Mile) drive!

This shot is the very last shot I took in Grand Teton N.P.
It was the only day that the summits were out of the clouds, lucky me!

Just take a look at the looks of this creature..... Magnificent isnt she?
My last Lynx image got a lot of comments and views and ended up #3 in Explore (with thanks to you all) so I decided to add another photo of the same Lynx.

In this photo I think this Lynx shows how cunning they can be, just by the way she looks, with the detail of the hanging paw and the tongue licking her nose. Just imagine being wounded and helpless and 5 or 6 of these creatures wandering around you with this look on their faces........
It has been a while since my last post, I have been away for work and I had a little holiday, so here I am again.

In the second half of February, I visited the Bavarian Forest for the second time. This is just one image of the thousands I shot there. It was such an awesome sight to see this magnificent animal plow through the deep snow. Because the sun was just breaking through the thick clouds that day, she was "Walking on sunshine"

Last week, HvHe1 and myself were on a trip to the Bavarian forrest.
With the intention to mainly shoot "big" carnivorous creatures like Wolf, Lynx and Bear, we never expected to shoot this little fella.

As we stopped somewhere to take some shots, this little guy blew his cover for us by running around like a maniac! Oh man these Weasels are fast! Sometimes he would just pose for a split second, this was our chance to make the shot.

Unlike the other animals in the park, this was a real "wild" one!

Last year I bought the Canon EOS 1D Mark IV. While photographing at my Kingfisher spot, I decided to give the movie-function a try, so here is one of my first movies shot with the MK IV.
I just uploaded this file to see how this works and just to give this video thing a try :-)

One of the most beautiful spieces of Harrier if you ask me. The way they soar above the fields looking for prey.
As soon as they spot a prey, they dive towards the ground like they want to show off their agility.. hence the name Soaring Stuntman.

I am sorry I am not posting allot of new material last days, Im a little short on "Flickrworthy" shots so it is time to go out and shoot some more!

During Last years Red Deer Rutting season, this majestic bull followed his harem along a small ridge right infront of my nose. Like the moment was not special enough by itself, the red glowing evening sun threw a blanket of warm light right over the bull causing him to like "explode" out of the background. I cant wait till this years rutting season!
