One of the big news stories for today seems to be that the Munchkin coroner, Meinhardt Raabe, died today at the age of 94. I haven't yet posted these photos of the Wizard of Oz costume contest at the Century III Amphitheater where three of the actual Munchkins were the judges of the contest. This contest was in October of 1989 for the 50th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz film.

Hickory Farms Century III

Hickory Farms original "barn" design in Century III Mall early 1980's. Many remember this design and prefer it to the later design of the 90's. Hickory Farms now returns each year as a kiosk in Century III during the holidays. I am also told that this is what Hickory Farms in Dixie Square Mall (Blues Brothers Chase Mall) in Harvey, Il looked like, though I can not be sure on that.

Renovation in Progress

This photo shows the mall during the renovation stage. Notice the stage area has been cemented over, and the framework for the new fountain is in place. Also the Pittsburgh Reflections statue is still in its place at the mall. My theory about the statue is that it came under some damage during the renovation, and was subsequently destroyed thereafter.

Century III's original Center Court Area in front of Kaufmann's. The original fountain, the stage area, and the "Reflections of Pittsburgh" statue can be seen in this shot.
