My brother took this picture of a young rat on the side of the water at Abbotsbury swannery. This is a major crop of a bigger picture taken with a long lense. With his permission, I just wanted to share it. I thought it was a nice composition which my arty Flickr friends might use for a drawing/ linocut etc. I may give it a try if I get time.

Turn of the century taken by Thos. C Howard, The Studio Wimborne, which makes me think it is local but I can't work out which house it is, any one have any ideas??????????? RESOLVED - with thanks to Hazel and Geoff.

No info other than the address on the back Miss C K Jenner from Crewe Cheshire. There is a possible link to a designer working for Rolls Royce in the 40s at Belper which is just down the road from Cheshire , a Miss Cecily Jenner was part of the team working on the mark VI Bentley.They also had a styling dept in Crewe.

I thought this was an impressive beasty at 12 -14 inches high and an 1" thick stalk. The law of sod dictated that I only had my mobile with me. Seen on the bank by the Stour. I think it is a Coprinus comatus ( shaggy ink cap) also called a lawyers wig! In the morning it is edible but I wouldn't fancy it in the evening, looking like this.

Rosina Charlotte Bean (1893 - 1961) was a Dorset artist but there was very little info available so my thanks tp Manchesterlassie for filling in the details. There is another one is at www.flickr.com/photos/etchingsplus/4072019385/ Image size 2.5 inch x 3.5 inch

Second favourite river walk which is along the Avon at Ringwood. I am always fascinated by this sluice gate, I don't think it has moved in years!

William J Yates was a local photographer to KIngton, Herefordshire. I figure this is 2 brothers and a sister with their partners. The label on the back says taken August 1894, maybe a wedding or family occasion.

I found these on the path whilst walking the dog this morning but only had my mobile phone camera on me. I know them as Sundew but they are also known as Dewplant, Flycatcher, Lustwort, Moor-grass, Red-rot, Youthwort. They are only about 1.5 cm high, so easy to miss.

The banks are lined with Crack Willows and Hornbeams, the willows will 'crack' and fall over but the branches keep on growing. View On Black

Just past the school there is a weir and two sluice gates, once the water level drops in the spring, an island becomes clear and the swans start to nest. Hope you enjoyed the walk ;-)

As the sun goes down the school is the last thing it hits. Originally the home of Lord Wimborne, built in the mid 19th Century, it is now a boarding school. View On Black

The walk takes you along the Stour towards Canford Magna, there has been a Manor house on the site since Saxon times, hence the name. View On Black

I thought it was a nice family group. It is in German on the back, from what I can translate; 'Taken 15 Sept 1900 by father on Nurnberg- Schmausenbuck (in background) Mrs Thomas, (l) Grandmother Blau, Mother, Mr Thomas.'

The height of the river fluxuates so that in the winter it bursts its banks and the fields can flood. The river is home to trout, pike, chub and kingfishers along with various ducks and swans.
