The vog from the eruption of some vent of a volcano on the Big Island of Hawai'i has been sending tons (literally) of sulfur into the air (along with very fine ash). Makes fro some colorful sunrises -- and some very troublesome breathing! (my lungs haven't been well since the eruption began a couple of months ago)

The night of the partial eclipse. The moon pulled the tide way out, exposing the reef surface. I was hanging out with friends at their beach house, drinking wine. We watched some folks work their way up the reef, from far to the south. Eventually they were aligned in the moon's light on the water. A magical view. I'm told the squid are very hard to see. They leave a recognizable trail that only one with a good "squid-eye" can notice. Whether these folks caught any or not I've no idea. The sea once contained a huge bounty, but the over-abundance of human beings is depleting resources everywhere. btw: this was a hand-held one second exposure.

The ocean is just behind me. Here, the river comes down from the mountains to meet the sea. I saw this SUV and thought: this could have been a scene staged to portray a car advertisement. But it is just life on the rugged north shore of Maui.
