The mating ritual of the western North American shopping cart is a carefully choreographed dance in which begins with the male stalking his potential mate for up to four hours before the initial approach.

Here we see a well-developed male Marshall's cart (Cartalis marshallus) lying in wait for a female Ralph's cart (Cartalis ralphesus).

In the wild, some older male members of Cartalis ralphesus (the Ralph's cart) have been known to subsist off a diet of garbage and cast-offs from other carts due to an increasing inability to effectively hunt.

This behavior is usually concurrent with the onset of senility and the final stage of a cart's life cycle.

I Hate Emptying The Dishwasher

I don't know why, but I hate emptyting the dishwasher. Absolutely loathe it. I think it's the most odious of all household tasks. I'll avoid it as much as possible. I'd rather clean bathrooms than have to empty the dishwasher.

Tonight, in search of inspiration for today's photo, I found myself in the parking garage under the Ralphs across the street from my apartment.

While I was setting up my camera in a rather isolated part of the garage, I was approached by a woman (I believe her name was Christine) with a slightly strange request:

She wanted to pray for me.

She explained that she and her friends were doing this thing called a "Treasure Hunt" and that one component of this particular hunt was praying for random strangers. She had spotted me as we passed on the sidewalk in front of Ralph's. Something about my black hoodie caught her attention. Maybe it makes me look like a lost soul, I dunno. But I guess she had seen me and decided I'd be a good candidate.

Taken aback, but otherwise put at ease by her pleasant smile, I agreed - sure, she could pray for me. So she asked me a little about myself, during which we were joined by her friend (whose name I can't remember).

So, as I knelt there at my tripod, Christine put her hand on my shoulder and said a very nice, non-denominational prayer asking God to help guide me through my life, help me find prosperity, and reveal Himself to me through my art.

Halfway through, the cynic in me began to wait for the other shoe to drop. I half expected these two people to either try and convert me to whatever religion they were praying to, or to beat me up and steal my camera.

But they didn't. After the prayer was done, they thanked me for my time and let me snap this picture of them. So I snapped the photo, we all thanked each other, and they left. There were no strings attached and, as I walked home, I kinda felt bad that I thought there were going to be.

Instead, I just had two completely random strangers say a prayer for me for absolutely no reason late on a Friday night in the Studio City Ralph's parking garage.

Oddly, this was not the first time a stranger has asked to pray over me.

Maybe I should smile more.
