A dazzling display of the northern lights (aurora borealis) erupted on November 13th/14th. Even though it was considered a moderate geomagnetic storm (KP 6), it was one of the best light shows I have seen in years. I did have a tense moment, however, as anywhere from 5 to 8 coyotes closed in on me to about twenty five yards or so. They decided to take off, yelping all the way through the field back into the forest. Clarence-Rockland, Ontario.

Wild Turkeys causually walk beside my van. My three year old son was saying, "gobble, gobble, grrr!", the entire time he watched them :) Prescott-Russell, Ontario.

I'm not sure if I will ever have another encounter like this one. I saw this American Bittern walking along the edge of a trail in a backlit situation. I very casually walked by it, turned around and to my surprise it walked right toward me! I actually had to back off to achieve the minimum focusing distance (12 feet) with my 400mm! What a memorable experience... Clarence-Rockland, Ontario, Canada. Photographed with a Canon 7D and 400mm f5.6L, handheld.

Another image from the night of October 8th when there was a beautiful display of the Northern Lights. This image was taken during a lull in the action. The green glow lasted hours followed by short periods of more intense activity. Ottawa/Clarence-Rockland border, Ontario.
