Proxy Falls

I know this photo has some flaws, but I just wanted to upload this so I could finally say Happy Waterfall Wednesday! Yippee!
And to prove that I actually did get to shoot the spectacular Proxy Falls. ;) I made a lot of stupid mistakes on these shots, but oh well, that just gives me an excuse to go back, right?
Anyways, I learned a new editing technique today and I thought it would work well on this shot.

I didn't realize this until I decided to upload this, but this photo kind of has to do with my recent blog post, considering the mistakes I made.

So I went to cut some strawberries for my Grape Nuts this morning and then thought "These strawberries are to pretty to not take photos of." And then ensued a photoshoot with some strawberries and a bowl of Grape Nuts. I now know I would not make a good food photographer because I would get too hungry and eat the food. It was torture having to decide between my two favorite activities: taking photos and eating.

On a sidenote, I got my tripod and ballhead today. I love them so much. And the tripod is so light! It's amazing. And I have a feeling I'll be using that center-column-moved-horizontally feature a lot. :) Oh, and I named him Albus Dumbledore. And I have a good reason. See, when I get a 5D Mark II, I will name him Harry Potter. And Dumbledore supports and helps Harry. Like a tripod does for a camera.

I know, I'm a Harry Potter freak. My MacBook Pro's name is Luna Lovegood. :)

I finally found a place that develops 120 film. Yay! Except it cost $46.50 to develop 3 rolls of film. Boo! :( That's more than my Holga costs! This was the second roll of film to go through my Holga, the one that got wet on my Hug Point adventure. My first few rolls actually turned out better than I thought they would.

You have no idea how excited I am about this photo. I've been waiting for this shot for more than a month! For the title page in the yearbook, we usually have a photo that has the Warrior, our mascot, on it. So, I got the idea to shoot this, but since Lebanon is kind of a small town, not many people drive by the school at night. So, I figured the only night that there would be enough cars passing by would be Homecoming night. I think I did pretty well for only having about 5 minutes where cars were leaving the school. There are still a couple things I would change about the photo if I got the chance, though. But, isn't that always the case?

Hug Point through a plastic lens

Jessica Frinkster posted a photo:

This is the same comp as my other Hug Point shot, just taken with a different camera. Holgas definitely see things differently than most cameras.

I prefer the other version better, because of the sharpness and detail, but this one has some nice qualities, too.

I'm thinking I'm going to go the color route with my Holga next, but I can't decide between negative or slide film. I wish I could just buy a roll of every different type of film.

This was the very first photo I shot with my Holga. It turned out way different than I thought it would, but I still like it. I guess it's true that you're not supposed to look through the viewfinder because it doesn't help at all. I'm pretty sure this was not the comp I was envisioning.

I purposefully went out looking for cool sand patterns because I find Zeb Andrews' sandscapes so fascinating. I've never paid much attention to sand before. It was just one of those things you don't really pay much attentioon to. But, there are really cool patterns in the sand,. As long as you stop making all those footprints in it when you're chasing after those sunset photos, that is.

One of the waterfalls at Silver Falls State Park. I wanted to go to Butte Creek falls, but it turns out it's a 2 hour drive. So, I settled for Silver Falls. I don't really like Silver Falls. There are too many people there, which makes it hard to get any decent photos. I had to shoot this vertical because there were people to the right.
I'm not too pleased with this. Really, I just like how you can see the rocks in the foreground so clearly. And that's thanks to my new tripod. I would've never been able to get this low with the cheap tripod I was using before.

This image was inspired by Zeb Andrews

This photo was actually taken at 6:30 in the morning. I had to be at school at 6:30 to distribute yearbooks the second to last day of school and I noticed these clouds, so I stopped to take a few photos. I've been noticing clouds a lot more now thanks to Zeb's cloudscapes. It's quite difficult to get a "good" composition of cloudscapes.

This image actually had the morning light look, but it wasn't really working for it, so I applied the "Midnight" style in Color Efex Pro. At first, I didn't really like it, but it seems to have grown on me. For me, this image gets more interesting the longer I look at it.

Oh, yeah, if you would please vote for my photo, I would greatly appreciate it.

If you didn't know this already, I'm in yearbook. And I'm the Photo Editor. Which means I take a lot of photos of school events. I usually don't post photos I've taken for yearbook, but I thought I'd post this one because of the amount of work I put into it.

I really want a 70-200mm f/2.8. But, since I don't have $2,400 to spare, I have to settle with the school's 75-300mm f/4-5.6. The background in the original photo was really distracting. So, with the help of Photoshop, I made the f/4 look like f/2.8. I love Photoshop. :)

Oh, by the way, I entered my photo of the McKenzie River into a photo contest. It's one where the photo with the most votes wins. So, if you could please vote for me, that would be dandy. :)

Not really...just the beach. It's not really a great photo. I just liked the two sunstars (even if they aren't that great) and the perspective. Composition is really hard with a 360 lens. Those are fingerprints at the top; the lens gets dirty really easy. I didn't feel like taking the time to get rid of all that sun flare, especially around the edges. There was just too much. I started it really late the other night, but I accidentally exited out without saving it. Obviously I was really tired, cause it even asked me if I wanted to save it and I clicked don't save. Stupid me.

This photo has quite the story behind it. When we arrived at Hug Point, I went the wrong way to the waterfall. Then, the tide came in and I got stuck on the other side of the rocks. I tried going around the rocks and ended up stepping into waist deep water. I got my phone, iPod, and an exposed roll of film wet. My phone and iPod survived, but I’m not sure about the roll of film. It didn’t get too wet, so hopefully, it’s okay. I ended up having to climb over the rocks and I got a hole in my jeans. When I finally found the waterfall on the other side, I realized I left my quick release plate in the car. I didn’t have much time to take photos. I probably could’ve spent hours there. This waterfall is so much better in person, I really don’t think I did it justice. I’m kind of undecided about these shots. There’s something off about them, but I’m not sure what.
