This is a post-processing by me of this photo by my talented film photographer friend. He shoots and develops many different types and formats of film in his many cool film cameras. He has a medium format Mamiya that I covet. It has this most incredible prime lens. Big fat wide open bokeh monster. He and I are starting a film photography blog soon called www.filmisback.com

I did several things to it. I cropped it square. I tonemapped it twice. I treated the sky with Topaz Adjust to smooth out the noise and pop the contrast in the clouds. I moved the foreground individual one fence section to the right.

Happy Wednesday everyone. The Apocalypse is alive and well down on Granville Street, which is always open.

This sampler plate is served at Yew, at the vancouver Four Seasons. Clockwise from top left, Lobster Maki with sweet chilli, Scallop ceviche, tuna tartare and charred octopus salad.

Delicious.

I shot this with my Canon G10 and treated it with Topaz Adjust to enhance dynamic range.

Can you see someone waving on the tip of Canada Place? I like the tonka truck at the bottom.

Didja know that flickr comes from my town? Vancouver is where it all started. This is Canada Place, where cruise ships dock and conventions are held. Now we also have the new Convention Centre extension, seen in the background on the right. The New Fairmont is rising in the background as well.

Single RAW processed as pseudoHDR using Photomatix then treated further using Topaz Adjust.

Shot from a helicopter landing at the Vancouver heliport.

I think my black levels are too high. I am going to re-release this later.

This B&W conversion was taken in late day bright sunlight. I used Topaz Adjust for dynamic range adjustment on the original color RAW file, then converted to B&W using a high-contrast red filter.

It seems we can see the whole universe inside a single dandelion.

I take my title from the French philosopher and author of controversial literature Georges Bataille. I read a lot of his work in university. Fascinating writer with truly challenging ideas.

This photo is a shout out to Mike Harcourt, Mayor of Vancouver 1980-86 and an alderman for many years prior. He was instrumental in Vancouver's urban planning that saw the preservation of sightlines from the heart of the skyscraper-dominated Downtown and West End outward to the remarkable natural vistas that make our city so special.

This photo looks into the West End from Coal Harbor. It shows the preserved sightline along Nicola Street, which is not a major thoroughfare.

Nice work Mike, the city has cleavage. The view down the seperation that draws the eye forward, entices and thrills.

Sexy City.

In Canada we use British English, so "re" not "er".

This is the new Vancouver Convention Centre expansion, just opened to the public in the last week or so. In the background is Canada Place and behind that the Vancouver Harbor dockyards with a giant freighter being loaded.

Then thing I find interesting in this photo is the sheer complexity of glass, reflections, transparency, inner lights, depth of field... I attribute it all to the architect.

For scale, in large see the tiny person standing below the far edge of the angled wall.

I did a three exposure HDR portrait, balancing my G10 on the railing.

This old crane lives on Granville Island. if you visit Vancouver, I encourage you to not miss Granville island. It is an amazing place, full of history and interest, and one of the finest public markets in the world. Just ask Alex!

s0ulsurfing tagged me yesterday, and this was the fifth photo in the fifth folder of my photos directory. I had just worked it up last night as a remix of my photo The Sacred Path is Light. You can see, by comparison, what the HDR process does to bring out detail in the darker areas, as compares to the original shot.

Tagged! I hereby tag the following photographers and challenge them to look in the fifth folder of their main photos directory and post the fifth photo they find there.

I understand if you do not comply, your camera will output only "Bratanesque" photos from now on.

I shot this Sikorsky from the co-pilot's seat of an Otter float plane. It was heading in to land at Victoria's Ogden Point just after we took off. I tried to get it just as it passed thorugh the suns path, but not fast enough. I think having it slightly past actually gives a sense of motion and passing.

The window was dirty as usual so I used pseudo HDR and tonemapping to bring out the range of tones.

The Fraser River Delta from the air. This is on the West coast, British Columbia, BC, Canada. Shot near sunrise. Light source is the rising sun to the right. Used HDR to bring out the details in the foreground islands, which were pretty dark in the original.

Intermitant postings from the archives to follow until I get new light buckets and new glass.

HDR does amazing things. This is a five exposure telephoto photograph that shows everything that would otherwise be in the shadows of a bright sky burning overtop the clouds obscuring the horizon.

Note Race Rocks lighthouse in the lower right...so tiny.

Awesome flight this morning. As usual, this is shot from a float plane over Georgia Strait. I left the horizon tilted to enhance the sense of aerial-ness.

Strait of Juan de Fuca fishers in silhouette. The variation in cloud one can see on any given day, especially with telephoto, is very entertaining. On the horizon we see the three stacks of the Port Angeles pulp mills.

Today we visited to the world famous Butchart Gardens. We've been there many times, but never with Verity at an age where she could run around. This reflecting sphere was one of her favorite things.

This is a 5x HDRi with some editing. I had to pick one Verity since she was in motion for all five shots. I also did tonemapping then Topaz adjust and then further adjustment using levels and curves until I liked what I saw.

Here's a stylized vision of a stormy, late day transit across Georgia Strait. The sun was breaking in the west and backlighting the scene.

This is HDR from a single RAW, as well as additional post-processing using Topaz Adjust, and flooded with the Flood filter. I replaced the ocean because of noise problems.
