Tôt le matin, quelque-part entre Portomarín et Palas de Rei. Entre les petits villages (aldeas ou pueblos) on passe beaucoup de temps dans de belles forêts comme celle-ci. Je n'oublierai jamais les odeurs d'eucalyptus en Galice.

Early morning, somewhere between Portomarín and Palas de Rei. Between the little villages (called aldeas or pueblos) one spends a lot of time in beautiful forests like this one. I will never forget the scent of eucalyptus that surrounded me for days in Galicia.

Walkers share the Camino with cyclists and equestrians - although in this case the horse belonged on a farm between Melide and Arzua.

Les pèlerins à pied partagent le chemin de Compostelle avec les vélo et les 'chevaliers'. Mais dans ce cas-ci, le cheval appartient à une ferme entre Melide et Arzua.

Les flèches jaunes que l'on retrouve partout sur la route de Compostelle sont très rassurantes, surtout dans les villages où la route n'est pas toujours en évidence. (Je l'ai refait en couleur; je n'aimais pas particulièrement le 1er résultat)

The yellow arrows found everywhere on the Camino to mark the way are very reassuring, especially in towns where the route isn't always obvious. (I've redone this in colour as I didn't like my original version)

Deux pèlerins font leur chemin vers Compostelle,

Tout au long de la route j'ai vu de tels champs de maïs, mais je n'ai jamais une fois vu un produit de maïs dans un restaurant ou magasin.

If you look closely down the path you will see two pilgrims on the Camino.

Corn fields like this one can be seen all along the Camino, but never once did I see a single corn product in a restaurant or food store.

En Galice j'ai vu plusieurs maisons comme celle-ci où les propriétaires cultivent leurs raisins sur des structures devant ou à côté de la maison. Pratique et charmant!

House Wine

In Galicia I saw many houses decked out this way, with vines hanging out front or on trellises on the side of the house. Practical and quaint!

Santiago: le dernier jour

On the last day into Santiago, this is one of the few spots without pavement. Much of the day is spent on ashphalt, which makes for tired feet and legs.

Près de Santiago
Le dernier jour du Camino Francés, on passe peu de temps sur des sentiers de terre et de gravier comme on voit ici, ce qui rend le tout moins plaisant pour les jambes et les pieds.

Une minute avant, ces deux couples se parlaient sur le chemin. J'ai raté le moment, mais je trouve la photo intrigante tout de même. On peut imaginer ce que les deux au fond se disent après la rencontre, et c'est rigolo de voir les deux en avant-plan qui marchent séparément (Monsieur chemise-orange a dit une bêtise et madame en avant est offusquée? De toute façon, il semble avoir de quoi rire).

Their own Camino

A minute earlier these two couples were having a conversation. I missed the moment, but I still find this intriguing: what are the two at the back talking about, after having met their friends. And why are the two in front not walking together? Did Mr. orange-shirt say something he shouldn't have? He seems in a jolly mood, at any rate.

Calvaire

On retrouve ces calvaires fréquemment sur le Chemin de Compostelle. Suite à ma marche, je me suis acheté une croix pour symboliser mon propre 'calvaire'... orteils ensanglantés, ampoules, gastro.

We find these crosses sprinkled here and there on the Camino, symbolizing the 'cross' that peregrinos carry. At the end of my walk I bought a gold pendant with concha and this cross to symbolize my own crosses - bloody, swollen toes, numerous blisters, infection and a bug caught along the way.

La Pulpería en Palas de Rei

Pulpería = Restaurant où l'on peut consommer du 'pulpo' sublime (avec un vin rouge maison, bin sûr). On les retrouve dans les villages principaux en Galice. Ici nous sommes à Palas de Rey pour 'el almuerzo' (au Canada, notre dîner).

Pulpería = a Restaurant where you can order 'pulpo' (octopus) with a bottle of homemade red, of course. I thought I would dislike the pulpo, but it was really tender and delicious. Here we find ourselves in Palas de Rey for 'el almuerzo' (lunch).

J'ai ramassé quelques petits souvenirs de mon pèlerinage en route. Chaque fois qu'on rencontre un 'caminante' sur le Chemin de Compostelle, on se salue en disant 'Buen Camino!'

I picked up a few things along the way to symbolize my pilgrimage. Every time one meets a fellow 'caminante' on the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, we cheer each other on by saying 'Buen Camino!'

Les anciens petits villages (aldeas) du Chemin de Compostelle sont très tranquilles, surtout en après-midi durant la sieste !

The ancient little villages along the Camino are often very quiet, especially in the afternoon during siesta.
