February 17, 2012: In addition to the Imperial Beach Pier, I also drove to Coronado and took a walk on the beach there. I had loaded a new roll in the Holga by then, and was careful this time to set the exposure number switch on the camera back to 12. So, no overlaps from this roll.

For this double exposure, I turned my back to the sea to face the houses that run along the beach, then turned around and took the next exposure looking out to sea. (The land mass seen in the seaward exposure is Point Loma.)

This is a double exposure of the Hotel Del Coronado as seen from the beach, showing two sections of it.

The main body of the hotel is in the lower portion. Leading off from the main body are a string of cottages, which are seen in the upper portion.

Holga oops at the Imperial Beach Pier (2)

February 17, 2012: I drove to the Imperial Beach Pier with my Holga camera. Imperial Beach is a small town in San Diego County, positioned at the southern end of San Diego Bay.

After loading a roll of film, and putting the back plate back on, I absent mindedly put the exposure count switch on the "16" position and proceeded to take photos, including several double exposures. The only problem with that was I had not placed in the camera the mask that is supposed to be used when one is going for 16 exposures.

Result: overlapped frames. Definitely a major oops, but after going through the results, I find I kind of like it in some instances, such as here.

Taken April 28, 2011. Taken on Fiesta Island, in Mission Bay, San Diego. Double exposure of wildflowers and what I am fairly sure are the only trees in the mostly undeveloped areas of the island (or at least the only large trees.)

Decided to use this mirror to try a self-portrait with the last exposure on the roll of color film. At the time I didn't notice the other man who was also looking at the mirror.

Double exposure on an Ocean Beach street of palm trees and the largest (or at least widest) stump I think I have ever seen, presumably from a palm tree.

I had gotten so out of practice in using my Holga that I didn't even think about doing a double exposure until I was well into the second of two rolls of film I had.

The exposure of the stump was taken second; this probably would have been more effective if I had taken the stump first, but I'm fairly happy with the result anyway.

At the end of the Ocean Beach Pier, looking at one of the two arms that extend out from the end. This is a fishing pier; most of the people seen here were doing just that.

A little further down the length of the Ocean Beach Pier, I saw this view of the incoming surf. (This is looking down from the southern side of the Pier, whereas the previous photo was looking down from the northern side.)

Taken April 28, 2011. Taken from the same walkway I took the last two double exposures. Turning in another direction, one can typically (during good weather) watch planes coming into land at the eastern end of the runway at San Diego's airport, Lindbergh Field, while looking across the very busy Harbor Blvd. I decided to try to catch two of the landing planes in a double exposure. (Didn't mean to end up with one plane stacked above the other, but I like the result anyway.)

Taken April 28, 2011. Double exposure taken in Balboa Park, looking straight down at needles dropped by a pine tree and looking straight up the trunk of the same tree (I don't recall the actual order of the exposures.)

Taken April 28, 2011. Another double exposure of the Port of San Diego anchorage for private boats. This time one exposure looking along the rocks that line the "shore" of the anchorage (and again looking towards the Coast Guard station), and the other exposure looking straight out across the Bay towards Coronado and North Island Naval Air Station. (The Naval Station is home to both aircraft and aircraft carriers; one of the carriers can be seen in the distance.)
