It's already a few months ago I took this shot. The days were short cold and most of the time gray.
Sometimes the sun tryed to pop-out through the clouds but mostly his beams disappeared into the dark clouds.

This day I went to our polder landscapes together with my brother to capture some snowy landscape beauty. It was a bit of a "go on good luck" action because the forecast told us the weather should be better at the end of the day. (but that's never for sure in the Netherlands)
But our weatherman was right and that gave us the opportunity to capture some beauty.

The Eurasian wolf, also known as the European, common, or forest wolf, is a subspecies of gray wolf which has the largest range among wolf subspecies and is the most common in Europe and Asia, ranging through Mongolia, China, Russia, Scandinavia, Western Europe, Caucasus, the Himalayan Mountains and Balkans. Compared to their North American cousins, Eurasian wolves tend to have longer, more highly placed ears, narrower heads, more slender loins and coarser, tawnier coloured fur. Compared to Indian wolves, Eurasian wolves are larger, and have longer, broader skulls. In Europe, wolves rarely form large packs like in North America, as their lives are more strongly influenced by human activities. Because of this, Eurasian wolves tend to be more adaptable than North American wolves in the face of human expansion

Beautiful but Vulnerable

Hydrocephalus posted a photo:

Sinds it's been almost two moths ago I went to the zoo for the last time I decided to bring it a visit today.
Arriving at the amur leopard his quarters he finally shows hisself. (normaly it's at the back of his cage and you can't spot him). I directly took my chances to capture this amazing and beautifull animal before it would disappear again.

Fact:
The Amur leopard (Panthera pardus orientalis) is a leopard subspecies native to the Primorye region of southeastern Russia and Jilin Province of northeast China, and is classified as Critically Endangered since 1996 by IUCN. Only 14–20 adults and 5–6 cubs were counted in a census in 2007, with a total of 19 to 26 Amur leopards extant.

ps.
We don't have to ask ourself anymore if this animal will be extinct, we can only ask ourselfs when.

Fact.
Starbucks offers 20,366 stores in 61 countries 793 stores are located in the United Kingdom and London itself already counts around 290 coffee shops.

My idea is to make a serie existing of 3 or 4 oldies and add same vintage/old look to them.
Here is number two in the line.

Sunday the 28th of April it was "American Sunday" at circuitpark Zandvoort.

A lot of new and old muscle cars showed their beauty and power.
The above Dodge took my attention because of his color, rusty spots on the hood and how it was lighted by the sun.

The Dogle Charger R/T (1971-1972)
The R/T (Road/Track) from 1971 was a model derived from Charger's third and final "muscle car" generation and was produced for a little over a year. The demand for high performance versions of the Charger decreased because of rising gas prices and insurance costs and its production ended, only to be later on replaced by a "Rallye" version.

The polar bear is a bear native largely within the Arctic Circle encompassing the Arctic Ocean, its surrounding seas and surrounding land masses. It is the world's largest land carnivore and also the largest bear, together with the omnivorous Kodiak bear, which is approximately the same size. A boar (adult male) weighs around 350–700 kg, while a sow (adult female) is about half that size. Although it is closely related to the brown bear, it has evolved to occupy a narrower ecological niche, with many body characteristics adapted for cold temperatures, for moving across snow, ice, and open water, and for hunting the seals which make up most of its diet.

Although most polar bears are born on land, they spend most of their time at sea. Their scientific name means "maritime bear", and derives from this fact. Polar bears can hunt their preferred food of seals from the edge of sea ice, often living off fat reserves when no sea ice is present.

This windmill is allready mentioned in the steward account of 1381. In the past six centuries the windmill was rebuild several times due to it was destroyed by fire for example. The first version of this windwill was build on top of a watchtower that was part of the city wall from the middle ages.

The most beautifull part of the windmill is probably the fact that it's build on top of the hull of the old wachtower. This cylindrical-hull contains a wall thickness of 1.6 meters at his lowest point and has a hight of 6 meters. You can still find the embrasures is this tower.
Built in: 1851
Type: Gauntry windmill

Pelicans are a genus of large water birds comprising the family Pelecanidae. They are characterised by a long beak and large throat pouch used in catching prey and draining water from the scooped up contents before swallowing.

This month it was carnival in Venice(26th January - 12th February).

I have to say it's amazing to see how many effort people put in their outfits and how funny it is to see some tourists try to be one of them. Sometimes you think that a artist is coming your way but when you spot those nice white sneakers underneath the costum and see the missing smink aroud their eyes you know it's a tourist.

When I spotted this artist I directly noticed the black eyes. I tried to come closer to see where she was looking through. She used a very simple but effective solution. "Black netting"

This month it was carnival in Venice(26th January - 12th February) and I decided to take a visit to
this (you can say) extraordinary city.

We were lucky with the weather that week. Besides it was a bit cold the sun was shining all day long whereby the city showed his amazing colours and created a perfect atmosphere for the visiting tourists.

I decided to use the "poster edges" filter a bit to let this photo look more like it's painted. By using this filter you also create a small noise effect at your image to. Increase the "vibrance"and "Saturation" a bit to create a more living feeling to. This photo is also merged into a HDR image made of 3 photos with a exposure differece of 2 Stops.

Today I went to the zoo together with my brother.
One of the last cages we passed serves as home for the sea eagles. It seems that one of the eagles waked up on the wrong side of the bed.

His angry look and the low sun result in an cool shot if you ask me. I only needed to level up the shadows a bit to make the bird brighter.

Leake Street is a road in Lambeth, London. It is about 300 metres long, runs off York Road and under the platforms and tracks of Waterloo station.

The walls are decorated with graffiti - initially created during the "Cans Festival" organised by Banksy in May 2008. Whatever the legal position may be, the creation of graffiti is tolerated.

During my NYE celebration holiday in London I took a night to capture the most common touristic attractions. Walking over the Tower Bridge the day before I took this picture I saw this amazing opportunity to capture a nightly shot framed like this using my fisheye.

Taken the shot was a bit difficult because when a bus or car came alongside it results is some vibrations but a passing bus just gives those awesome high light stripes.

Today it was the first time I had the opportunity to try my new lens. (Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM) Handling this massive object of 2.6KG is really a challenge.

I went to "de slikken van stellendam" (nature reserve) to start practicing with my new gear. (lens, tripod, swinghead) It felt like it was the first time I was taking photos because I was constantly checking and adjusting things to see what how they respond. After taking a few shots I decided to turn homewards on my way back to the parking I suddenly spotted a robin chilling on a piece of barbwire. This was the moment to put my earlier tryouts into practice.

One thing is for sure I need some more practicing to get used to my new equipment.
