The last two weeks I went to the Leekstermeer at least 4 times to catch the sunrise, but the sky was covered with a grey blanket every time I stood there in the freezing cold. How lucky and happy I was my perseverance. payed off this morning...

Over het gebouw:
Na een jarenlange periode van schetsen, ontwerpen en heftige debatten is het ontwerp van de Italiaanse vormgever Alessandro Mendini en drie gastarchitecten Philippe Starck, Michele de Lucchi en Coop Himmelb[l]au in 1994 voltooid en opgeleverd. Van april tot december 2010 was het Groninger Museum tijdelijk gesloten wegens een revitalisering van het gebouw. Door de revitalisatie heeft zowel het interieur als het exterieur van het museum de glans van haar oorspronkelijke staat weer heroverd. Studio Job, Maarten Baas, de Spaanse designer Jaime Hayon en Alessandro Mendini hebben bijgedragen aan een verbeterd gebouw met een spectaculaire ontvangstruimte Job Lounge, een prachtig vernieuwd restaurant en een innovatief informatiecentrum dat de bestaande bibliotheek vervangt. Alessandro Mendini ontwierp de nieuwe tegel voor het exterieur van het Mendinipaviljoen.

Through the revitalization has both interior and exterior of the museum from its original state the gleam again retaken. Studio Job, Maarten Baas, the Spanish designer Jaime Hayon and Alessandro Mendini have contributed to an improved building with a spectacular reception area Job Lounge, a beautifully renovated restaurant and an innovative information center that will replace the existing library. Alessandro Mendini designed the new tile for the exterior of the Mendinipaviljoen.
