The Glorious Flanks of Mt. Hood

I hiked up to Paradise Park within the Mt. Hood Wilderness today and came away very impressed. It's a bit of a bruiser to get up there (12 miles, 2300 feet elevation gain, one sketchy glacial melt crossing) but all in all, well worth the effort. I'll be aiming to spend a night or two up there very soon.

By Erik. Terrible title but it's true : ) Since the cost to travel has increased, we have been sticking closer to home. Even with Mt. Hood being so close, we really haven't done many overnight trips there. So this summer has been about playing in our own backyard. A few more Hood pics to follow. This mountain deserves it.

By Erik. Perhaps this is a Seaside dandelion, which resembles the normal dandelions lawn curators bemoan, however the Agoseris apargioides is native to the coastal areas of the Pac Northwest.

By Erik. A more complete view of Pacific Crest Falls taken just steps from the trail. These falls have a few interesting elements and were fun to explore further back. This picture was taken by suspending the camera on a branch using our Gorillapod, a mini, flexible tripod. I wanted to take a picture of the setup just to show how ridiculous (yet effective) it looked.

By Erik. I'm not much of a fan of these flowing waterfall shots as it doesn't actually look as flowy when you're standing there. As such they often look a bit silly in my eyes. But the volume of water was so great at these little falls that it didn't look much different than this. Besides, everyone needs some of these flowy waterfall shots, right?
