Getting ready for a busy day on the tracks. Not bad for 87 years old! The low angle of the shot emphasises the wonderful proportionality of Greenly's design (as well as how much it looks like a Gresley Pacific). In the latter respect the design was ahead of its time: the LNER A1 (later A3) Pacifics didn't get smoke deflectors until BR days (discounting the early experiments). There's something of the post war Peppercorn Pacifics, too.

The RH&DR played a minor but important role in the protection of the Kent coast and the preparations for D-Day in WW2. Occasionally they put on a recreation of the war time period with people dressing up in period clothing. Olympus OM-D E-M5 & 12-50mm lens.
