Valley Of The Tombs

The Towers of Yemliko, also known as the Valley of the Tombs in ancient Palmyra, Syria.

Whilst at first these crumbling remains look like some form of fortification, they are in fact funerary towers that were used to hold the deceased. These were constructed as multistorey burial chambers, stacked with coffins posted in pigeon-hole niches. The niches were sealed with stone panels carved with a head-and-shoulder portrait of the deceased - many of these are now on display in The Lourve, Paris.

Most of the towers date from between 200 to 300AD.

Bagan is considered one of the world's most significant religious sites, with some 2500 pagodas and temples in only forty two square kilometres. A majority of the temples were built over a 450 year period between 850 to 1300 AD by the various ruling kings of that time.

I've been pretty lazy lately, both with taking photos and uploading them, so apologies for the lack of new material.
