A restful, rainy, windy Sunday. I've not really done a lot today but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it... We intended to go for a walk, but the wind and the rain soon put an end to that idea... Instead, we had a very brief drive, just so I could get a couple of shots for 365...

The most patriotic shoes I have ever owned... patriotic to where exactly is quite a long list... basically anywhere with a red, white and blue flag...

In fact; today I choose to be patriotic to Samoa...

These are a pain to get on and off because of all of the eyelets. They are also covered in what ever the black gunk is that covers the floor of The Two Pigs in Cheltenham...

This afternoon, whilst Kate was at the gym, I went for a drive and walk to try and get some much needed inspiration for a photograph... As it is the final day of my February Alphabet Fun challenge, I needed something related to the letter Z...
It was a muddy walk but as I stood there, on top of Haresfield Beacon, with the sun going down over the River Severn in the distance, I felt incredibly peaceful, "Almost Zen-like" I thought to myself... and there I had it... "Zen".
With that, I rattled off a few shots and legged it back to the car before I was stranded on a hillside in the dark...

This place also reminded me of the early part of Nineteen Eighty-Four when Winston and Julia meet up in the countryside; a rare oasis of peace in the World and in stark contrast with where they live (in George Orwell's vision of a dystopian London). In the novel, this trip to the countryside represents a happy time before everything goes very wrong, when Winston and Julia are forced to betray each other in Room 101 and conform to society's strict rules...

If you squint, you can see the Severn Bridge...
