Watch any TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) video and you’re most certainly met with an intellectual adrenaline rush, like the feeling that rips through you after a significant accomplishment. How TED and its TEDx licensees manage to consistently produce that effect on people, is one of the many intriguing things I learned after talking to TED’s leader Chris Anderson and researching the TEDx phenomenon

Judging by the headlines, one could easily conclude that vast vistas of new commerce for hundreds of thousands (eventually millions) of independent game and application developers have opened up with un-ending wealth creation opportunities for all the players in this new commercial eco-system.
But are mobile game developers making any money off of their games? The dirty little secret is in fact they are not. “Profitability is elusive for the vast majority of developers. Unless you are part of the anointed few that Apple selects to push heavily in the App Store, revenue is hard to come by,” Jason Seldon of Eye Interactive and P4RC (pronounced ‘Park’) points out.

Before every year ends and a new one begins, it’s important to recognize those that have already paved the way and those that are about too. It’s fitting, then, to recognize the up and comers, to understand their perspectives and compare them to our own. They serve a dual role in the SharePoint community: First as a source of new ideas and second as a check on the established guard.

Since SharePoint is quickly becoming a more strategic platform for businesses, administrators are looking for a wider variety of guidance. Whether it’s helping to develop a robust social solution, advising on adoption strategies, or discussing innovative approaches to solve business problems, these next generation influencers are providing much needed diversity.
The Reality Quadrant for SCRM infographic

To be fair, with respect to their analysis, Gartner typically gets it right. Just not this time.

The problem is that SCRM is a relatively new concept with little in terms of real world business application experience. Therefore, the Gartner research is not likely based on empirical knowledge, but on their opinion of the vendors’ solutions and business strategy that was presented to them.

For the few of us that are using SCRM tools as mission critical business solutions, their SCRM Magic Quadrant is more illusion than conclusion. For example, how does Jive manage to secure the top spot on the Quadrant when there isn’t a Vice President of Sales on the planet that will choose them to manage their customer relationship, opportunity, pipeline and forecasting information?

The Top 20 Social CMOs of the Fortune 100 (infographic)

Mark Fidelman posted a photo:

there are at least 20 executives in the Fortune 100 that understand social. We’ve highlighted them here:

We created the top 20 Social CMO* guide using state of the art sentiment analysis technology from Lithium (formerly Scout labs) and social media metrics from HowSociable, Klout and Social Mention.

Why is this important?
We believe that the social media and content start to replace their traditional media counterparts, the companies listed above are gaining a competitive advantage. In fact as we’ve experienced, social media is a differentiator that facilitates and accelerates word of mouth marketing. There’s nothing more effective.

It’s important to note that this is not an influence or popularity list. The list was created to highlight Chief Marketing and Communication Executives that are not only using social tools, but are being recognized by consumers as positive influencers on their brands.

What’s odd is that the majority of the Fortune 100 CMO/CCOs, either don’t recognize the power of their Fortune 100 perch or are concerned about violating Sarbanes Oxley. As a former section 16 officer myself, some of the concerns are founded, but most are an excuse not to engage.
