Big Ben Sunset Panorama

paulwynn-mackenzie.co.uk posted a photo:

Much Better on Black!

So then, another long hiatus from Flickr is over! I am rather annoyed at myself for not getting out there, well to London, to take some shots but I finally got round to it the other weekend and it was great fun! The conditions played along beautifully and I was in a prime spot across the Thames from the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben to capture the lovely colours that nature showed of that evening. Although I have to say, it certainly was not warm out there!

Anyway I'm pretty pleased with this shot and hopefully its not overdone at all which is what I'm most worried about. Also I don't think some people will like the perspective or distortion that the photo has from stitching together of 5 photos but I grew to like it in my post processing.

I also cannot wait for the weekend after next when I head home and will be only 30miles from the amazing Dorset coastline entering its prime time of year! So hopefully, weather pending (or not if I go and get some ones in less than ideal conditions) I will capture some nice seascapes of the area. It will actually be my first time I have gone to get photos of the Dorset coast in the prime time of the year (due to the position of the sun) so I truly cannot wait. The hardest bit will be dragging myself out of bed though!!

Anyway I hope you enjoy this one, let me know what you think!!

PS: I will try to catch up a bit on other contacts photos, I'm sure there is some awesome inspiration for me for when I go home :)

Thanks so much for the #4 Explore!

Wembury

paulwynn-mackenzie.co.uk posted a photo:

So I upload this shot unsure as to whether I have over processed this, I really hope I haven't. Its mainly a WB change, boost in clarity (especially in the waves), small boost in colours and an exposure adjustment for the sky. I really really really (really) wanted the rays of the sun to stick out more but I couldn't bring the highlights of the sun down without ruining other bits so until I get more skilled at PP this will have to do. I think also the fact that this at 10mm (15mm for 35mm format) the sun in the distance became much more compressed and kinda disappeared in the pic a bit (still getting used to just how much stuff my Sigma 10-20mm can fit in, its crazy haha)

It was nice also to see some other photographers on the beach, I should't have gone to chat to them, bit silly that I didn't, especially as I don't normally don't see other togs about (maybe I go to unpopular places to often (or the wrong time) haha), anyway next time I will haha.

Finally was hoping for a nice beautiful sunset with the clouds light up when the sun sets, however this never happened and it was another lifeless sunset, mind you pre-sunset was lovely. Next on the list is to visit a bay called Heybrook bay but I will return to Wembury soon :)

Anyway Enjoy, and thanks a lot for any comments or faves, always very appreciated :)
Sunset over Boscombe

paulwynn-mackenzie.co.uk posted a photo:

So before I talk about this shot and what not I just wanted to let you all know that I have just released my first website designed by myself, which I hope you'll enjoy and stuff. The address is www.paulwynn-mackenzie.com so please do check out it :)

Anyway onto the picture, this was taken by Boscombe Pier near Bournemouth, this was the result of a lovely sunset, I have few of these to show you, with this one possibly being my favorite. I have a couple of nice big 13x19 inch prints that my parents wanted of this shot so thats nice :)

I was really trying to play around with the shutter speed a bit on these shots and I like how on this photo it moves from the 3 simple rocks in the foreground into the sea which becomes more eventful (sorta) as you move towards the horizon , with the pier providing a perfect focal point.

Anyway I hope you enjoy this shot (and the return of colour in my stream!) and please also check out my website :)

Separate personal comments and favs are always greatly appreciated :)

So this is my last long exposure B&W shot to show you from Bournemouth (well actually Boscombe). I think personally this was maybe fav B&W shot from the day. I tried to process this shot a bit differently from the others and try to give a bit of lighter and brighter look. I was also pleased with the reflection of the pier in the bottom right hand corner which is not common to see in long exposure B&W shots (at least not in the ones I have seen).

Anyway after this shot I will be uploading a few colour ones but I will return to B&W long exposure shots in the near future and I would like to thank in particular Spencer-brown (www.flickr.com/photos/spencr-brown/), Andy Brown (www.flickr.com/photos/mrbuk1/) and Joel Tjintjelaar (www.flickr.com/photos/tjintjelaar/) for some simply brilliant inspiration that helped me take some of my shots, thanks :)

So one more groyne to show you from Bournemouth beach. I think personally i prefer the composition of this one compared to the previous photo but something strange happened with the clouds, i'm pretty sure this happened before I started processing it or anything so all a bit odd.

Also I have started to become concerned that my monitor maybe completely out of calibration, so let me know if this looks really strange on your computer, cheers

Enjoy :)
Keep Clear Of Groynes

paulwynn-mackenzie.co.uk posted a photo:

Firstly Happy new year to all of you!!! For me 2011 in terms of photography was all about starting out, learning the techniques from magazines, books, websites, other peoples photos etc and then practicing them for the first time. So 2011 was more revolution (as in prior to 2011 i wasn't interested in photography, mainly for the lack of a camera which is pretty important to photography :P), this will hopefully mean 2012 will be more evolution where i can start to develop maybe a style that suits me.

So the first photo I post for 2012 is carrying on with the same theme of the shots I got at Dawlish, long exposure black and white photography. Which I have quickly become a fan off, mind you this is not to see I have waved goodbye to colour as I'm currently processing the pictures of the sunset I witnessed while in Bournemouth after I got these shots. So throughout 2012 expect to see much more B&W long exposure stuff but also hopefully plenty of colour shots to.

Anyway thats all im going to say for now, so enjoy :)

Random Note: Keep Clear Of THE Groynes would make more sense but I wrote it how the sign wrote it, no particular reason :P
I have been trying to work on this type of photo (ie, long exposure B&W seascape) and I'm pretty happy with this attempt personally :).

Hi there, first time in a while going out with the sole intention of getting pictures but I now have some more time after I finished my last bit of coursework last night for my first term of year 2.

Anyway when I first started taking pictures it was all about colour, I liked some pictures in B&W but it was something I was never personally interested in. But I have over the past couple of months been wanting to do more B&W photography, so expect to see more of it. I have been inspired by several different people's work on Flick with their long exposure B&W shots (usually involving water). This was the first real time I had go at making the B&W long exposure effect I was looking for and I am quite pleased with the result for a first attempt.

Finally I was quite impressed that any of my long exposure shots came out sharp and not blurred to be honest because the wind was exceptionally strong (30mph or so with 50mph + gusts). So I tried to act as much as a windblock as possible which did seem to work to an extent :).

Anyway enjoy!

Oh and there is a million and one dust spots/dirt, which I think wasn't helped by the weather none the less I have tried to take all them out but I may have missed a couple!

This is my second star trails shot that I managed to get on the hoe, think I prefer this on to the other one, mainly because the wheel has a bit more punch than the lighthouse in the previous shot. But also because there are more trails in this shot which is nice :)

Once again I used photoshop to stack all the photos together, I think this one has about 55 shots stacked on top one another, each exposure was 30 seconds long. I also have tried lots of different crops of this shot to find one I liked, but still not sure if I'm 100% happy with it.

Anyway hope you enjoy, any comments or favs are greatly apperciated :)

Update: This was published in the Hotshots section in Digital Camera World July 2012

Went to Durdle Door the other day and I know there are many shots (many stunning ones) of this place but with good reason. This was taken with a B+W ND110 filter with a long exposure time of 124 seconds. I was quite pleased with the outcome and I was also pleased that I managed to use my ND filter again as I rarely get to use it when im not by the sea.

Anyway I hope you like it :)

This photo is only here for your enjoyment, if you would like to use my photo in anyway or would like a large high quality print the please contact me through Flickr mail. Thanks
Winter Sunset

So eventully got round to visiting Heybrook Bay which is a lovely little (very little) bay in Devon which was under some great light when I visted the other evening. It was probably one of the best sunsets I have seen this year (or at least one of the best ones I have managed to get out and photograph) so it was nice to get good light on my first visit to Heybrook Bay.

On a completely different note I found this great little quote from the legendary landscape photographer Ansel Adams that I really liked:

"Landscape photography is the supreme test of the photographer - and often the supreme disappointment."

I can personally say that this quote can be so true sometimes :P

Anyway enjoy :)

So probably the last shot I will show of the sunset at Boscombe pier for a while. I can confirm that I did get wet feet while taking this shot and the fact that later that evening I had to go for meal with shoes that were a bit soaked wasn't ideal. But I hope it was worth it :) I think the next investment for my camera equipment should defiantly be wellies tho!

Yet another shot of Dawlish (sorry! only one more of these to come), this one was an experiment that I tried.

Yet another shot of Dawlish (sorry! only one more of these to come), this one was an experiment that I tried. I wanted to create a photo with one simple focal point and I guess i'm not fully sure if this is enough (or perhaps slightly too much), but I thought I would upload it to see what others think.

Anyway hope you like :)

Another shot of Dawlish, however this time without a pier and using the rocks as the foreground to make a bit of change. Not to much to tell about this shot tho.

So enjoy :)

Another shot of the waterway thing (whatever your meant to call it), I think this was my first shot of the morning as I took shelter under a closed ice cream stall while it rained. I also had problems when it came to processing this photo trying to get rid of some grain in the sky without losing to much detail in the sky and this was about as best as i could do.

Got a few more of these to come over the next few days as I go through and edit them. In the mean time you can hopefully enjoy this one :)
