The vaulted ceiling in Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, the second longest cathedral in the world. The brickwork looks almost like a painting with the rustic browns and golden colours highlighted by the uplights. The cathedral was open as part of LightNight 2013.

Part of LightNight 2013, a moving kaleidoscope is projected onto the Oratory building at the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool. It was mesmerising.

Checkpoint Charlie

Checkpoint Charlie (or "Checkpoint C") was the name given by the Western Allies to the best-known Berlin Wall crossing point between East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War.

I was going to keep this in full monochrome, but I really like how the (cheesy) selective colouring turned out.

An Unusual Sight

While the streets of Liverpool are often filled with interesting sights, they're very rarely filled with such gems as horse-drawn carriages, especially around Vauxhall Road.

Sadly I was in the car, and only had time to safely pull over and grab the camera for a quick snap.

Rowboats at Derwentwater

Derwentwater is one of the biggest lakes in the Lake District, in Cumbria. It is 3 miles long and 1 mile wide, and 22 metres deep!

These rowboats are available for hire to the public, and there were many out on the day that we were there, on a lovely spring afternoon.

In the Lake District in North-West England, just south of the town of Keswick. These steps led to the water's edge, and there were lots of couples skimming stones across the water.

Private Jetty

This jetty leads onto Derwentwater, in the Lake District in Cumbria. The boats at the end of the jetty are private hire, all with small outboard motors. I guess they're essentially the scooters of the naval world.

Rowboats for hire at Derwentwater, near Keswick in Cumbria. I think in the summer, I'd like to come back and hire one, and take some photos of the scenery from in the water itself. Hopefully someone can convince me that this is a bad idea before then!

Hale Beach and Lighthouse

Taken from the shore while the tide was out, this is Hale Lighthouse, on the banks of the River Mersey. Finished in 1907 and built on the site of a previous lighthouse, it is now a private residence and not open to the public.

I was surprised to see how dry the beach floor was, given the regular tides and recent rain we've had. It was a hot afternoon, but even so, it's the kind of thing I'd expect to see in a desert somewhere.

Hale Lighthouse is on the banks of the Mersey, near picturesque Hale Village.

Hale Lighthouse is on the banks of the River Mersey, near Hale Village. It's disused now, on a privately-owned site and not open to the public.

I was inspired to process it with an infrared flavour by local 'tog David Firth Photo-Graphics, who takes some fantastic IR shots and runs an infrared walkabout tour around Wirral/Liverpool.

Liverpool Waterfront Panorama

This is seven different images stitched together to form Liverpool's iconic skyline but from a different perspective - almost 450ft in the air in the viewing gallery of the Radio City tower (or St. John's Beacon as it used to be known). The tower is the second tallest building in Liverpool, with the tallest being West Tower (which can be seen on the right-hand side of this picture).

East Wirral can be seen in the distance, including the Birkenhead docks, Seacombe, and Wallasey.

Some people flying a kite near the end of a gorgeous sunny day near Crosby Beach, Waterloo.

Crosby beach is a few miles north of Liverpool on the banks of the River Mersey, and is home to the 'Another Place' sculpture by artist Anthony Gormley.
