This is one of the other statues from the Arlington memorial bridge. In "Sacrifice" a standing female symbolizing the earth looks up to the rider Mars. The scale and attention to detail of these sculptures are nothing but stunning. I took these shots early in the morning during morning light and the way sun lit up these statues were just amazing.

"The Arts of Peace" statue by James Earle Fraser flanks the end of the parkway of the Arlington Memorial Bridge. "Music and Harvest" consists of a winged horse, Pegasus, between a male figure with a bundle of wheat and a sickle and a woman with a harp. The statues, approximately 17 feet tall are of gilded bronze. They were commissioned in 1925, but were not erected until 1951.

I went to the Lincoln memorial early in the morning to avoid the crowds and get the morning light. After I finished with the Lincoln memorial I walked behind to get these statues. The easiest was the Arts of Peace statue and the best factor was that I was alone and had time to frame shot perfectly in glorious morning light. The only missing aspect was that I would have preferred some clouds to make the sky a little more interesting.

The Arlington Memorial Bridge taken from behind the Lincoln memorial overlooking the Potomac river and the Arlington National Cemetery (actually you can see the Arlington House on the far left). Last weekend I took a long awaited trip to DC finally and spend the weekend there exploring and photographing the capital city. I had planned a DC trip at least three times before and all of them fall apart before I had a chance to go. But last Friday in spite of the torrential downpour and severe thunderstorm that hit NY-NJ area I managed to drive all the way up to DC armed with my camera gear and my car stuffed with my brand new bike.

This was two trips combined into one, a photography walk around couple with testing waters with biking after a long time (well after high school). I have to say biking inside the city is an amazing experience when you are shooting as it helps you to get into these different locations faster but I think you need to be a bit more prepared in packing or attaching your gear to the bike.

More tips & pix from the trip to follow in coming days…
