So the begging of the week was Bank Holiday. With Adam still staying and Kirsten along, we went to the annual May Day celebrations. Our band played for the hundred of people and we had fun. There was MayPole dancers, and lots of other performances. It was the hottest day of the year so far and was lovely weather. We went to a local pub which was chockablock with people as we tried to get some food. It came in the end.....Another nice day.

The rest of the working week was all meetings, and then early on Friday morning we dropped Kirsten at school and headed up to Sarah's parent to get ready for her sister's wedding on the Saturday.

Sad day - moving office: Week 14 of 52

So this is the last day in this office. Our whole department move to a new building tomorrow and the past few weeks have been hectic as we have been preparing for the move. Today the end is upon us. I have been working in this building since I joined Cranfield in 1998. I have (as far as I can remember) had six different offices. This is by far the best. When I moved in here I got a new wrap around desk, got rid of shelves and book cases to give myself room for a meeting desk. The new office will be open plan and I have very limited shelf space. It means that I have spent the last two days throwing ancient files and reports that the department have worked on. I just went through a filing cabinet that had all the papers (physical papers) that I used to develop my PhD - these papers were the foundation of the work I have done since and have travelled with me from the Plymouth since 1990. The world has changed and most of these papers are available online through library subscriptions and thus all the paper versions are unnecessary. The world turns and most of the time we don't notice, sometimes you stop for a moment and can see the change.

The week at work was pretty poor due to some tension regarding the "Research Excellence Framework" - a government audit of research done throughout the universities in the UK every seven or eight years. Anyway - by the end of the week I was fully fed up and not looking forward to travelling to Dublin. However, I love the city and I met up with SO at Dublin airport (she'd flown in from a different airport to my departure point), and we headed into town. We ate a hearty meal in Temple Bar early and checked into our accommodation reasonably early as I was working on the Saturday. The work went well and on Saturday night we went to Mulligans, a gastro-pub with fantastic food and micro-brewed ale for the evening. On Sunday we had a mooch around town, and travelled home in the late afternoon. A nice weekend after a rubbish week.

The first part of the week was moving into our new office and getting used to the new environment. On Thursday we go to Spain for a few days RnR!

So I was walk into the Ocean Grill. It is a nice place on the first storey of a building on the harbour. The woman, sitting with her male friend opposite me, smiles. I smile back. She smiles again. Hold on - she's sitting right there with her fella, so I look down at my phone, read the menu, that sort of thing. Next thing, she is at my table "Are you a photographer?" she asks....Hard question as I'm sitting there with my camera and fell over my tripod as I sat down. "Er, yeah. You want me to take your picture?"....."Oh no! We're here to meet a photographer to talk about him shooting our wedding". "Oh, OK. I hope it works out. If not here's my card....." Well you've got to try, haven't you!! =)
