A Dutch Dad's Army: the Voluntary Landstorm

Spring 1913, the Dutch Parlement adopted the Landstorm Law . This Landstorm had to become a reserve for army and militia. Each "healthy" man till the age of forty years' was liable for the Landstorm, even if he had been already in military service.

When the Dutch army mobilized in August 1914, many people reported voluntairy. So there was also founded a Voluntary Landstorm. A Dutch version of 'Dad's Army', say.
The Voluntary Landstorm did not come in action during the first world war. Netherlands remained neutral. In 1940 the Voluntary Landstorm did fight, but was disbanded by the Germans shortly after the surrender.

Note: in november 1918, the Dutch government called in life the Special Voluntary Landstorm (BVL). In 1918 there was also much discontent and unrest in the Dutch conscript army. This army was concidered unusable against domestic disturbances.

Indeed, in 1918 the BVL was deployed in Rotterdam and Den Haag. And again in 1920 as the turmoil in the German Ruhr area threatens to spread out to the Netherlands.

For clarity's sake. This Dutch "Landstorm", "Voluntary Landstorm" and "Special Voluntary Landstorm" have nothing to do with with the in 1943 German-founded "Landwacht Nederland", later "Landstorm Nederland," and later "SS-brigade Landsturm Niederlande".
The Rehoboth church was inaugurated in 1908. On 31 December 1971 in this church the last service was held. In 1972 she was aborted.

Four girls probably on holiday in the Veluwe. When I look at the AA signpost, I think somewhere near Kootwijkerbroek. But I have not really checked.

Who made the picture, I wonder? A fifth woman? Or one of four young men out of the picture? Or ...

The picture was quite overexposed. I am therefore reasonably happy with this 'Photoshop' outcome.

One of two photos that were in a Dutch secondhand book that I bought.
I'm not sure if they belong together. But I do think so because the photos are printed on exactly the same paper.

P.M. Snaauw from Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht and his 'Burgers E.N.R' (short for: Eerste Nederlandsche Rijwiel- en Machinefabriek v/h H. Burgers, also a manufacturer of motorbikes). No date, probably around 1915.

Mr. Snaauw was probably the 3th 'vélopicédist' (cyclist) of The Netherlands. In 1867 he had his bicycle made by the local blacksmith W. Stijnis. Snaauw's first bicycle was a legal copy of a Dutch copy of a French Michaux-vélopicéde.
Snaauw was also one of the first Dutch racing cyclists.
