The moss covered, jasper walls of Avalanche Creek are one of my favorite aspects of Glacier National Park. That and how this creek is a torrent of colors, particularly after rain.

The stone walls are jasper, a stone that polishes well and usually breaks with a smooth surface.

When jasper (which forms the majority of the bedrock in Glacier National Park), or really any other surface, is wet or polished, the color is much more brilliant. In this case, the stream has been carving out this canyon for quite some time [understatement perhaps] and all the surfaces are polished smooth. Between ice fractures and all the complex eddies, some rather unique rock formations have formed.

I posted a black & white version a while back; I took forever to make a color edit of this that I liked...anyway, I'm mostly happy with this, despite the skyline looking a bit (IMO) overdone. This is a single exposure, no blending or HDR was involved.

Mount Rainier seen from the Pinnacle Peak Trail

About 5 minutes after I took this shot, I met Marc Adamus on the trail, which was quite awesome. He has been one of the photographic masters that I have been admiring for years. He gave me a few tips but unfortunately I was on a time crunch (my ride was waiting impatiently at the base of the mountain) and couldn't stay. Anyway, that made my day.
