My daughter and BF came to visit last week so we went to Fäbodvägen to show her American BF how beautiful Jämtland is. The weather was mostly gray, so not many photos turned out well except this one of my favorite building, Torvtaksbua at Långbua.

One Ferry, Three Diffrent Days

I posted the middle shot yesterday, but since I had photographed this ferry before I thought I would put the shots together.
The first one is from a pretty day this summer, the second one was taken two evenings ago, and the last one is from April before the ice melted away.
And thinking about these shots, my interest was in the skies and the clouds, I love pretty clouds :)
The ferry was just for foreground interest.
All 3 photos are HDR, 3 Exp, -2,0,+2, Photomatix

When I was a kid, there where many of these ferries carrying cars across the lake Storsjön. Then bridges where built and today there are only two left in traffic.
This particular ferry, named Skade Härnösand was retired when the bridge Vallsundsbron was built in 1998. Some entrepreneurs bought it and intended to turn it into a restaurant, then the financial crisis hit and it was anchored and abandoned in the lake. It must have been sitting there all alone for at least five years now. That's how long I have been back here in Östersund, so it could be longer.
The Island of Frösön is in the background.

This little building sits by itself in a big field. I don't know what it is used for, but some 500 yards away are huge radio towers. They might be connected somehow.

I saw clouds like this starting to build through my window and being a cloud freak I just had to go out and take a photo.
I didn't have much time so I just ran down to our little harbor, in Östersund, Sweden.
HDR 3 Exp, Photomatix and a vignette added to put emphasize on the cloud.

Långbuan Fäbodvall, located along the road Fäbodvägen that runs between Persåsen and Börtnan in Jämtland Sweden.
Långbuan is still in use like in the old days, to keep the tradition going and for tourist to visit.

The New Church in Oviken, Jamtland, Sweden, was built between 1902 and 1905. It served as the main church in Oviken until 1935. At that time the Old Church had been restored and it was preferred. Today this new church is used mainly for event that are too big to hold in the old one.

Mattmar Church built during the fourteenth century, expanded during the 1760s. The present bell tower was built in 1779.

The Old Church in Oviken, Jamtland, Sweden. Built in the middle ages. It's not known exactly when, but it was expanded in 1503. The bell tower was built in 1751-52.
The church was abandoned in 1905 when the New Church was completed.
After major restorations completed in 1935 this old church again became the main church in Oviken.
The New Church is next in my photo stream.

Along the road Fäbodvägen, that runs between Persåsen and Börtnan in Jamtland, Sweden, there are some 30 fäbodvallar (can't find an English word for fäbodvall). This is where farmers would bring their cattle to graze during summer.
Today, most are just sitting there unused, but adorable looking. As far as I know only one is still in use, and that's because of a very determined woman.
If you ever come this way, check them out!
