Adolphe Bridge by night

The bridge was designed by Paul Séjourné, a Frenchman, and Paul Rodange, a Luxembourger, and was built between 1900 and 1903.
Its design was copied in the construction of Walnut Lane Bridge in Philadelphia, the United States.
The bridge was named after Grand Duke Adolphe, who reigned Luxembourg from 1890 until 1905.

Banque et Caisse d'Epargne de l'Etat, also known as the BCEE, is French for the State Savings Bank.
The BCEE was created in 1856 and is the oldest bank in Luxembourg.
This impressive building was constructed from 1909 to 1913. Once the headquarters of the bank, it now is home to the bank's museum.
The bank's tower is one of the most noticeable landmarks in the city and can be seen from many locations.

Castle Bock Ruin

In 963 Count Siegfried acquired a small castle on the "Bock” rock which was to become the birthplace of the city [and country] of Luxembourg.
Over the centuries, the Bock and the surrounding defences were reinforced, attacked and rebuilt time and time again.

Hardly surprising then that the fortifications and the historic Old Town enjoy an international reputation.
In 1994, they were included on UNESCO's World Heritage List.

The medieval town core with St Michael's Church, once the castle chapel.
On the right hand "The Pont du château" (=Castle's Bridge), a rather curious structure. it provides no less than four ways of crossing between the cliffs: the road over the top, a passage by way of the four upper arches, a spiral staircase up through the main arch and a tunnel under the road at the bottom.

A lot of people wonder why I take so many architectural shots, I've taken the time to write down why I'm so fascinated by architecture. Although I'm not a writer nor a talker ;-)
What attracts me to take a picture of a building is the fact that we live in them, we work in them and most of us sleep in them.
Architecture "can" make a city beautiful and functional. The team work, passion, effort and stress behind the project

Unfortunately in Luxembourg I'm often prohibited by security guards to photograph the "exterior" of public EU buildings or regular office buildings while I'm on the sidewalk !?!
I usually ask the guards what law prohibit photographing a building, they are always silent ...

This picture is taken through the window glass on the first floor of the Court of Justice of the European Union using a fluorescent white balance. The Court of Justice didn't had any issues to photograph the building ;-)

The balloon from 3RS Ar(t)chitectures DESIGNMAART, 2010 Centre Aldringen Exhibition design proposed by the architects 3RS.

on the Right:
This was part of Niki de Saint Phalle’s Open-Air-Exhibition of “Nanas”. A “Nana” is an ample-bodied woman with wide hips and large breast that looks like a prehistoric fertility goddess and dressed in a colourful bathing suit. The first series of Nanas were exhibited in 1965 at a gallery in Paris and the Nana has ever since been the artist’s signature creation.
Niki de Saint Phalle (1930-2002) was a French sculptor, painter, and film maker.

A popular facility of Luxembourg is the Philharmonie Luxembourg. Also known as the Grand-Duchesse Josephine-Charlotte Concert Hall.

The building itself features a unique oval shape as designed by French Pritzker Prize winner Christian de Portzamparc.
