30th December 2010., Dublin Airport, Ireland

OK, so its a poor image, but arriving just after 1700 local time in almost complete darkness...I guess its a compromise. Either way its recording the visit of the aircraft to Dublin

Ms Janet Napolitano, U.S. Secretary for Homeland Security arrived at Dublin on this flight

This from "Air Transport News" ......
The Irish Minister for Transport Mr Noel Dempsey T.D. today welcomed Ms Janet Napolitano, U.S. Secretary for Homeland Security on her visit to view the new US preclearance facilities at Terminal Two in Dublin Airport.

The new preclearance facilities at Dublin airport are due to begin clearing US bound passengers early next year. These facilities will allow US bound passengers to clear all U.S. entry controls before they leave Dublin airport. Currently only US immigration clearance facilities are available at Dublin airport. From early next year all pre cleared U.S. bound passengers will face no further entry processes when they reach the United States and will be treated as if their flight had originated at a U.S. domestic airport.

Speaking today Minister Dempsey said: “I am very happy to welcome Secretary Napolitano to Dublin and for her to view the preclearance facility that the Dublin Airport Authority has provided for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which is a constituent part of her Department. Her presence here today is an affirmation of the importance that the United States Government attaches to U.S. preclearance from Ireland.

Early next year when this new preclearance facility here in Terminal 2 is opened all US bound passengers will benefit from uninterrupted passage through US airports on arrival, saving time and hassle. Transatlantic airlines will benefit from being able to fly into less congested and less expensive domestic terminals on arrival at U.S airports. This should lead to easier access to aircraft stands thereby minimising the time between touchdown and passengers disembarking. In the competitive field of aviation, time means money for airline operators. This Agreement could help airline operators save valuable time.”

Shannon airport has operated full preclearance facilities for all US bound passengers since March this year. Ireland is the only country outside of the Americas to offer this unique service to passengers and airlines.
