( the most important thing I noticed about this theyyam is the feminine looks, movements & eyes. The theyyam was gentle and fierce at the same time.)

Theyyam (theyyattam) is a ritual dance form popular in northern Kerala. Theyyam is normally performed in temples/Kavu/kOOttam mostly in Kannore and Kasrgode districts in few places in Kozhikode district. The name theyyam is derived from the malayalam name for God (daivam). During the ritual the artist is considered as God and they complain ask for blessings as if they are talking to God.

this from my beloved city - kozhikode / calicut. The old bridges at the beach is one of my favorite locations.

info: the black figures are the remains of the fallen bridge. the legs belong to a person sitting on the fallen bridge. Like many of my shots from the beach, this is also from beneath the bridge. Somehow I am crazy about this shot. Well its not the shot, its my city that makes me mad about this image.

Probably a suited name for this image was "nostalgic", a true Indian image, they feed us etc etc.

But, I think that is mere cliche. It is possible that soon similar scenes can be seen only in museums and places like dakshinachitra where they stuff the colourful past and present infront of us. We have MNCs coming up with mega farms and retail chains. They are going to control us. I am sure that these lovely, friendly ladies from karnataka are not aware of all those agenda's getting cooked in air conditioned board rooms and flying palaces.

They work hard & they feed us. Lets forget them & go back and browse the next photo from the contact list. Its easy to live with our ears and eyes closed.

development is nothing but a measure of all those good things that we are loosing ?

Brutality against mosquitoes in Cochin.

Special correspondent

Cochin was earlier known as Queen of the Arabian Sea when humans were under control of the city. Recently with the help of a special agency called GCDA who specializes in cultivating, training and building intelligent living spaces for mosquitos the city was successfully handed over to mosquitoes. Even today the corporation, GCDA, health department, tourism department, IT department etc try to attract humans both desi, NRI, NRK, foreigners etc by various means. Recently the IT department played major role by attracting well fed, educated engineers with extra large bellies from various parts of the country and they are mostly allotted in certain areas like kakkanad where mosquitoes from other areas given access restricted by weekly passes. Government is planning other special areas like smart city to increase the comfort levels of mosquitoes.

Tourism department organizes special programs in association with GCDA and Cochin corporation to attract foreign crowd. This ensures that mosquitoes are fed with blood belonging to various human races.

In addition to the existing canals and marsh lands GCDA and corporation is working on elaborate plans to create poth holes across the roads which will enable more mosquitoes to breed every year.

But the recent times the human population in Cochin has become increasingly intolerant towards our fellow mosquitoes. They accuse mosquitoes of causing discomfort and itching after they are provided with meals. Innocent mosquito population in Cochin are also accused of causing minor problems like death, long term illness like ChickenKuniya, dengi etc. They comfortably ignore the fact that ChikenKuniya is caused by over consumption of Chicken and minor problems like death are caused by natural spiritual causes which completely non-related to mosquitoes and their diet habits.

The government also noticed that humans are killing mosquitoes using brutal methods like electrified bats, certain poisonous liquids etc. Al-Out is believed to provide the Cochin population with liquids with extra MMR. Other outfits like Gud-NeT also believed to operate distribution chains in the Cochin area. Its a irony that the same humans were protesting against killings of couple of hundreds of humans or economic down turn.

A little known outfit believed to be operating out of country with a 'wall' is illegaly distributing deadly equipments resembling to tennis rackets. These weapons are charged from 230V A/C power consuming electric power and then used to kill mosquitoes.

This correspondent witnessed certain inhabitants of the city killing innocent mosquitoes with these deadly weapons. The poor mosquitoes are first lured close humans and then they are struck with electrified bats causing to blast into tiny pieces.

One inhabitant who calls himself "Intruder" said that more than killing the mosquitoes he enjoy the sound of them exploding !! He claims those deaths give him peace of mind.

This correspondent who had successfully reported the attack in Mumbai and increased the rating of TV channels never had such difficulty in reporting and selling the killing in Mumbai. But this is far too cruel than anything I have ever seen. The following photos and dead mosquitoes will give you a clear picture of brutality done against mosquitoes in Cochin. This high time for us to reach out and save the life innocent mosquitoes in this city.

I have provided AB+ type meal to few mosquitoes while making this report. Now this is your turn to act against this vandalism.

Sadhu, Father of the nation, warrior who made a powerful empire kneel infront of him with bare hands. Today, we express our gratitude to his soul by killing each other, corruption, communal violence, caste, racial discrimination, dowry ... well. There is no point in repeating its all there in the news paper you read every morning.

Bringing even a small change in the society, interacting with people is not an easy job at all. Sometimes it gets really funny.

This lonely statue stands opposite the parliament building in Quebec, Canada. The white colour is snow and there is no cropping. We were in Canada for a while and had grown home sick. I had never thought in my weirdest thoughts that seeing a statue will bring so much happiness to my mind. But Mahathma, the only Indian I met in Quebec had filled my mind with happiness. I had spent sometime there and missed my fellow travelers.

It was sad to see him standing alone there, but then super heros are always lonely.

Happy Birthday ! (I am not really sure whether he will be really happy seeing everything happening in our country, but ...)

Thullal (ottamthullal) is distinct for its simplicity of presentation, wit and humour. It follows the classical principles of Natyasasthra (a treatise on art compiled in the 2nd century B.C). Ottanthullal is the most popular among its three varieties. The other two are Seethankan and Parayan Thullal. Thullal is a solo performance combining dance and recitation. Staged during temple festivals, the performer explicates the verses through expressive gestures. Themes are based on mythological stories. Humour, satire and social criticism are the hallmarks of this art form. The Thullal dancer is accompanied by a singer who repeats the verses.

What is happiness ? Are we happy ? How do we react when we are faced with difficulties ?

I met this man while coming back from Madiwala market in the morning. He had few mud stains behind his pants. I was wondering why a well dressed man is having these stains. Then I noticed the stick in hand and the smiling face. As I was cursing and trying to pass a parked car, he almost collided with it & He was smiling. A smile which took away all my plans for the day & I felt pity for me. I was afraid to turn around and look at him because I don't wanted him to see me and laugh about my silliness. I deleted the "pink trumpet (Tabebuia)" flower photos I took in the morning, turned around took this shot and walked away.

I was telling my friend the other day that our state of happiness is defined by our past, our interests, the foolishness or the lovelessness we call as duties, rules, our ignorance etc. Only a person who is free or more precisely enlightened can idendify whether he is happy or not.

How can a person who has not seen anything can be so happy and confident ? But we close our eyes when we need them the most. Don't we close our eyes when we pray ?
