As a part of my photographic adventures, I've been researching 1940s photography for a certain project. That also involves using cameras from that period, in this case the Leica III. The apparent soft contrast of the lenses is something that takes getting used to. And since the cameras are over 70 years old at this point, their ergonomics and faults make things quite interesting at times.

This is also the first roll I've developed myself. Yay! That was after I thought the Leica had snapped the roll in half (which it almost had), so I went to the university's camera club's darkroom to salvage it and ended up developing it while there.

Leica III + 50/2 Summar + Ilford FP4 + 17 minutes in D-76 + Epson V600 scan.

If this isn't essential street photography in Helsinki, I don't know what is.

The old lady had dropped her umbrella cover earlier; a gentleman ran after her to give it to her but handed it off in a rush so the old lady dropped the cover again.

Shot from the hip on Leica M8 + 21mm Elmarit ASPH. Worked nicely in color too, but in the end I liked this b&w more.

Porsche Museum

The Porsche Museum was unfortunately closed when we mocked about in Stuttgart, but that didn't diminish the impact of the architecture. I absolutely love that building. Seen here in artsy black & white (and shot through the windshield of our car, sorry for the lamp post)

Greetings from Helsinki! Managed to take a few quick snapshots while visiting the capital for a few hours. My main reason for being there was to see the Pentti Sammallahti retrospective with a tour from the man himself. The tour was excellent as was the retrospective, only minus points go to the exhibition hall which had to rush everything (both the artist and the audience) to close in time.

On the way back to the train station I took a few snaps. This shot of the light signs above the main post office front doors was the one that caught my eye. Gave it some nice b&w love and here it is.

9 out of 10 dentists recommend viewing this in Large Black.

The stands for political ads had been taken over by ads for a new play about president Kekkonen.

Vaalimainosten paikalla olikin Kekkonen. Hetken jo mietin, oliko mies ehdolla taas kerran presidentiksi. Kyseessä olikin uusi näytelmä.

Phoenix Wright & Miles Edgeworth

On my way to the train station I had to cut across the site of Finncon-Animecon 2011 here in Turku. I was lucky to encounter these two cosplayers who were doing Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth costumes from the splendid Phoenix Wright game series. I had spotted them the day before but couldn't catch them in time to take a photo for my friend @avregary. This time I had a minute for two quick images, which I combined into this diptych.

9 out of 10 lawyers recommend viewing this in lightbox or in full size.

A Lego-graffiti on a railway overpass leading to the student village in Turku. I'm guessing it's trying to be the orange ghost (Clyde/Mocky/Crybaby/Pokey/Guzuta/Otoboke) from Pac-Man. Another fine example of video game culture showing its influence on meatspace.

Pedestrian between the lights

The local hockey team won the national championship yesterday evening and as a result, downtown and especially the streets beside the market square were absolutely packed with cars honking, with people waving their fan flags, shouting and singing.

I couldn't really capture the feeling properly, but on this image my eyes somehow locked onto the girl running in the zebra crossing, while the cars waited for their turn.
