I came across this bizarre camp while on a trail run near Aspen Lake. It is basically a picnic table out in the middle of a dry pond suspended above the (now frozen) mud on phone books. Looks like a great place to party on the weekends! A home away from home.

A while ago I took the dogs on a relatively long hike on the Pacific Crest Trail (17 or 18 miles?) while testing some new gear. I realized as we hiked that there was no water for the dogs along the trail (Pacific "CREST" Trail) and thought that was way too far for them to go without a drink. So I got out the map and saw that Summit Lake was only a mile off the trail. I had never been there before so we headed to it. I was surprised to find that Summit Lake was nearly empty! Very little water remained - but fortunately there was enough muddy, murky water in the center of the disappearing lake for the dogs to hydrate.

We were doing a long hike on the Pacific Crest Trail and had to take a detour to Summit Lake for dog water. The lake was nearly empty - a mere puddle in the middle - but fortunately enough for the dogs.
