1763 Upper Chelsea Road in 1918

Mr. Harvey A. Miller and his wife, Helen (McCullock) Miller, were from Wadsworth, Ohio, and Springfield, Ohio, respectively, and resided at 1763 Upper Chelsea Road with their sons, William and Hugh. Mr. Miller was captain of the football squad in his senior year of college at Wittenburg and a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Mrs. Miller was also a graduate of Wittenberg. Mr. Miller was a teacher at one time and later became Sports Editor of The Columbus Evening Dispatch, where he was known by sports enthusiasts as H.A.M. Mr. Miller was appointed to the Upper Arlington Board of Education in 1918.

Harvey A. Miller was born in Wadsworth, Ohio and graduated from Wittenberg College. Miller was captain of the football squad in his senior year of college and a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. His wife, the former Helen McCullock, is from Springfield, Ohio and is also a graduate of Wittenberg. They had two sons, William and Hugh. Mr. Miller was a teacher at one time and later became Sports Editor of The Columbus Evening Dispatch, where he was known by sports enthusiasts as H.A.M. Miller was appointed to the Upper Arlington Board of Education in 1918. He and his family resided at 1763 Upper Chelsea Road.

1763 Upper Chelsea Road, A Home Among the Roses, 1918

This two-and-a-half story house at 1763 Upper Chelsea Road was owned by Harvey A. Miller and appeared on the cover of the June 1918 Norwester magazine. Its Tudor features were typical of houses in the early days of Upper Arlington. The front yard was covered in roses, and the accompanying story described the beauty and lore of the rose, "the queen of flowers." The article also gave abundant advice on how best to grow roses.
