Ghaghra is one mission station founded in 1959 where the Daughters of Saint Anne assist in the pastoral apostolate and have also set up a primary school. There are close to 7,500 Catholics among the approximately 65,000 inhabitants, overwhelmingly tribal peoples living in great poverty. The sisters still inhabit a house built in 1959, and, happily, this has now grown too small given the great surge of new vocations.

The Helpers of Mary Immaculate in the Republic of Congo devote themselves especially to the care of the incurably sick and of young people in need. In 2007, they began work on building a convent in Brazzaville, the country’s capital, where they will take in the very ill. At the same time, the sisters care for a mothers' group and various youth groups. They also give catechism instruction.

Since the Trappist convent Our Lady of Mount Matutum in the Philippines was first founded in 1996, there has been a blossoming of vocations, with no fewer than 20 young women entering the order. Their fresh young faces radiate a joy one would scarcely have imagined in an order so noted for its strictness. The sisters support themselves by the work of their hands, baking cakes and biscuits and fashioning devotional items, but this income only covers the most basic necessities.

The three Sisters of the Order of St. Joseph in the Parish of Lyubar, Ukraine, provide a very precious service. They work as catechists, social workers, nurses and sacristans. The sisters have now found a site where they would like to build a convent, and by their own efforts they have already managed to lay the foundations.

It is often said that the Church must go out to the people. In the Diocese of Bongaigaon in the state of Assam in north-east India, Catholic nuns are doing just this. In fact, they are called the “Village touring sisters,” since they travel from village to village, staying as long as necessary.
