We went to the art museum yesterday and I checked out the new exhibit: "Light Years: Conceptual Art and the Photograph, 1964–1977." Fascinating. Interesting. A lot I liked, a lot I didn't. What impressed me the most was presentation; unique matting and framing ... ideas for shooting a series of images ... it was thought provoking and inspirational. I really liked the Boot Project!! 100 Boots, 1971-73. So where will I get 100 boots to do this? :-)

As we were walking around, we saw a painting we really liked from the renaissance period (forgot the artist) but the painting was breathtaking in how exquisitely the artist depicted 'atmospheric perspective.' So we launched into a long discussion on the topic.

I highly recommend taking along an art student the next time you go to an art museum! I love her perspective, her insights and how she encourages me to look at something I've seen many times in a whole different light.

I spent a wonderful day with Connie {surfma} in Half Moon Day. She plotted out a course that started at sunrise on the harbor in Half Moon Bay (as you can imagine, she had me at sunrise) and ended well after sunset.

We shot the crab pots & fishing boats, then moved on the surfers ... spent a considerable amount of time shooting sunbeams filtering down through the trees at Moss Beach; then had a most excellent ~~breakfast~~ brunch at the 3-Zero Cafe (I highly recommend the Crab Cakes Benedict).

Our next destination took us to the Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve where we spent a few hours shooting this lovely stream meandering beneath the redwoods. At this point, Connie suggested we go to the City for sunset. I was already waiting in the car!

We arrived at Rodeo Beach {where this shot was taken} at the perfect time. After shooting up a storm, we hit a few spots along Conzelman Road, capturing the Golden Gate Bridge at night (a first for me); then headed to our final destination: the Bay Bridge. Never shot this bridge at night either.

Somewhere in there, we also shot light trails on Lombard Street (the Crookedest Street in the World). She shared shooting tips from a Night Shooting Workshop she had taken and I am so grateful for that as I've done hardly any night shooting myself.

We finally arrived home at 10:30 PM ... propping up our feet with pita chips, hummus dip and a glass of beer!! At one point, I curled up in front of the fire with her amiable pooch, Kirra ... then finally wandered to my room (fabulously decorated in true surfer-boy style)!! Whew! What a day, huh?

I dedicate this image to Connie & her husband Tom; for putting me up for a couple of days in their 5-Star accommodations; but most of all, I thank Connie for her energy, her smile, her A-1 tour guide services, and for sharing tidbits of photographic knowledge!! I don't think she realizes that she has a new family member!! :-)

I know this shot is cliché (mine doesn't look so different from all the others I found here on Flickr) ... but this one is special because it is 'my shot!'

I have barely begun the process of going through my 7K+ collection of images. I had so many ideas for today's post ... but when I saw Irene's post of our epic sunset photoshoot at Baker Beach, and Char's post of our epic sunset photoshoot at the Berkeley Pier; I decided to go backwards and post my epic sunset shot at Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur with Sarah P ... my last sunset of the trip.

More importantly, I want to dedicate this post to everyone who took care of me on my 16-Day California Safari. I am overwhelmed by the kindness of everyone ... meeting up with old friends ... and meeting new friends. This was the trip of a lifetime, and it wouldn't have been possible without them.

Last of all, I want to make a special dedication to a new friend, Aurelia. You are in my thoughts & prayers. {{hugs}} ♥♥♥

Been working all morning on job-hunting related tasks {ugh} ... needed a break to cheer me up! This did the trick!! Such a gorgeous sunset this was (the same as this one).

Now I'm off to the kitchen to whip up some Chicken Tetrazzini for the old man's birthday dinner. Got some Guinness Stout chillin' and a Carrot Cake with 52 candles standing by!! I'll be visiting your photostreams while cookin'!!

I honestly couldn't have thought of a better way to end the summer. The nights were warm with a hint of cool, the stars were out and the skies fiery as the sun set. We watched this beautiful sunset over Wisconsin Bay in Peninsula State Park. When I passed by this couple on a bench, I couldn't resist! Jackie said I was creepin'!! They were sipping wine and I tried to capture the wine glass being lifted but missed it. I 'almost' went over and requested that they 'hold that pose!'

Hope everyone is having a relaxing Monday. I plan on cooking up a huge pot of vegetable beef soup. I just got back from Michigan yesterday, and my childhood friend and her mum loaded up the backseat of my Honda with the bounty from their garden! I will be around a bit to catch up to everyone, to see what y'all have been up to!

Just got off the phone with Rachel ... so thinking of my little girl. This is Rachel walking down the beach on our last night in Maui back in 2005 (she was 15 years old) ... and so carefree. Wishing I could transport the family back to this beach ... to this sunset.

I may have done a bit of sliding ... this is what one does on a Sunday!

I haven't had a chance to get out and catch a sunrise in a long time. This makes me sad. So I went in search of an earlier capture ... and found this one. I feel euphoric and jubilant ... just looking ... at the 'big hard sun' in this image!! I hope you do too!!

Another view of the tangerine & aqua sunset I enjoyed while sipping a Scrimshaw Pilsner at Nepenthe in Big Sur!!

Heading to the garden to weed (a gift from me & Jackie for Father's Day). Trust me, he'll be very surprised when we pick him up from the airport today!! Weeding is NOT our favorite thing to do!! I'll be back this afternoon to check out all the awesome fences!!

I had something else for today, but when I saw the "Wasting Away Again In Margaritaville" title for the group today, I decided to load up one of my favorite Key West images! This was taken in July of 2004 in Mallory Square during the infamous "Sunset Celebration!" I've partaken in quite a few of these celebrations and I have to say, on this particular occasion, the sunset rocked my socks off!!

When we go to Key West, we always stop in at Magarittaville and belly up to the bar with the rest of the Parrotheads ... and we always catch the cliche tourist celebration!!

Sunrise's are a dime a dozen! Just another cliched sunrise caught at "Sunrise Park!" Where else would you go to capture one? Maple leaves in silhouette just an added attraction!

I really wanted to see a sunrise this morning and the best view is always over the lake. Traffic was bad and I 'barely' made it! In the comments is the first peek I had of the sun and I raced across the prairie ... running & shooting.

It was a wonderful morning! Today is the first day where it has really felt like November.

I saved the music ... the raking isn't done yet!

Still on the road and heading to Carlsbad Caverns this morning to see the bats return to the cave! Haven't had a chance to look at any of my fence shots but I found this one lurking on the harddrive! And you know me; I LOVE Fence Friday!

This sunset silhouette was taken with my old film camera in Longboat Key, Florida in 2002. It is one of my all time favorite images form the trip. I have this one framed! The title is from "Saturday Morning Cartoons' Greatest Hits" soundtrack.

The girls LOVED that CD and this song is by Frente. This song was sung in one classic episode by Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm. Jackie would play this song over and over! She sang it with all her heart! We still laugh about it and she still remembers every single word to that song.

These last few posts of mine are really hitting up the nostalgia. I guess I really missed our family vacation this year ... all four of us by the sea ... changes in latitudes ... changes in attitudes (oh hey, another family vacation favorite)!

I have to tell you, this is one of my favorite photos of the trip; and I didn't even take this one. Jackie took this one of me, standing next to Balanced Rock in Arches National Park. I really like how she framed it!

Jackie has a flair for flare! We have several flare photos she took and I'll be posting those later. I immediately made this my desktop on my MacBook!
