Nessun luogo ha generato speculazioni e teorie come le pietre di Stonehenge. Dopo aver guidato per chilometri attraverso le colline e le pianure della campagna inglese la vista di questa particolare struttura fa rimanere senza fiato. Una passeggiata intorno a queste rocce evoca emozioni contrastanti e si ha la sensazione che questo luogo sia molto importante, che ci colpisce con il suo mistero. Ha vegliato per oltre 5000 anni in silenzio su tutta la terra. E' stato scavato, sottoposto a raggi x, misurato e sorvegliato. Eppure, nonostante tutto quello che è stato appreso circa la sua età e la costruzione, il suo scopo rimane ancora uno dei grandi misteri del mondo.

No place has generated so much speculation and wild theories as the standing stones of Stonehenge. After driving for miles through the rolling hills and plains of the English countryside the sight of this unusual structure makes people gasp. A walk around it only provokes more strange feelings. There's a sense that this is something very important. It taunts us with it's mystery. For over 5000 years it has stood silent vigil over the earth. It has been excavated, x-rayed, measured, and surveyed. Yet despite all that has been learned about its age and construction, its purpose still remains one of the great mysteries of the world.

Piazza Anfiteatro è stata costruita sul sito in cui originariamente sorgeva un anfiteatro romano. Questo antico sito costituisce uno dei monumenti più caratteristici ed originali della città. L' antico anfiteatro risale al 2 ° secolo dC. E' stato costruito su pianta ellittica con due file di 54 arcate e aveva una capacità massima di 10.000 spettatori. A partire dal medioevo, le case sono state costruite sulle rovine. Nel corso del tempo la piazza ha sviluppato la sua caratteristica forma ellittica, con edifici tutto intorno. I resti antichi sono ancora oggi evidenti. Questa piazza variopinta è stata restaurata nel 1830. Animata da negozi e caffè, è ancora oggi al centro delle attività culturali, festival musicali e fiere.

Piazza Anfiteatro (Piazza of the Amphitheatre) was Built on the site of an original Roman amphitheatre. This ancient site constitutes one of the most characteristic and original monuments of the city. The ancient amphitheatre dates from the 2nd century A.D. It was built on an elliptical plan with two rows of 54 arcades and a maximum capacity of 10,000 spectators. Beginning in the
Middle Ages, houses were built over the ruins. Over the course of time the piazza developed its characteristic elliptical shape, with buildings all around it. The ancient remains are still quite evident today. The colorful piazza was restored in 1830. Enlivened by shops and cafes, it is
still at the center of cultural activities, music festivals, and fairs.

La Luminara di San Ranieri (vernacolo pisano per «luminaria») è una spettacolare festa cittadina che si svolge a Pisa la sera del 16 giugno di ogni anno, vigilia di San Ranieri, patrono della città. Ogni anno circa 70.000 lumini (in pisanesco lampanini) vengono posti su telai in legno (detti biancheria) che vanno a disegnare le forme architettoniche di chiese, palazzi e torri dei lungarni.
Dopo l’accensione, per effetto del riverberarsi della miriade di luci tremule nelle acque dell’Arno, dove vengono deposti ed affidati alla corrente anche lumi galleggianti, e grazie allo spegnimento dell'illuminazione pubblica e privata, l’evento offre al visitatore una suggestione unica, dal sapore antico.

Candlelight Festivities Luminara di S. Ranieri
This event takes place on the eve of the patron saint’s feast day (June 16) and transforms the lungarni into a phantasmagoric fairy-tale setting.
The architectural details of the palaces – windows, cornices, balconies – the parapets of the river and the bridges glow in the reflected light of over 70,000 ‘lumini’ (small glass lamps burning oil or wax) while thousands of lighted candles float on the waters of the Arno.

La Torre Guelfa della Cittadella Vecchia

L’alta Torre Guelfa sorge in una delle zone più suggestive di Pisa, la Cittadella Vecchia, e con il suo inconfondibile profilo per secoli ha attirato l’attenzione di quanti hanno soggiornato in città o semplicemente passeggiato sui Lungarni. In realtà questa parte di Pisa, ricca di antiche vestigia spesso trascurate, racchiude secoli di storia. Qui infatti agli inizi del 1200, in seguito alle numerose ed importanti vittorie riportate dalla sua flotta in tutto il bacino del Mediterraneo, la Repubblica Pisana riunì in unico ampio spazio le intense attività cantieristiche. La scelta ricadde sulla zona più ad Ovest della città, nei pressi del monastero di San Vito (un’importante istituzione religiosa ora distrutta e testimoniata solo dall’omonima chiesa, più volte trasformata nel corso dei secoli), dove esistevano già delle infrastrutture portuali fin dal secolo precedente.

The Guelph Tower of the old Citadel

The tall Guelph tower rises in one of the most scenic areas of Pisa, the Cittadella Vecchia (Old Citadel). Its unique profile has attracted for centuries people visiting the town or simply walking along the Arno.
This part of Pisa, characterised by ancient remains usually ignored, is actually the witness of centuries of history. In fact, at the beginning of the 13th century, after the many and important victories of its fleet over all the Mediterranean Sea, the Republic of Pisa reunited in this place all its busy shipyard activities. The choice fell on the western-most part of the city, near the monastery of San Vito (an important religious institution now completely lost apart from the church of San Vito remodelled many times over the centuries), where harbour structures already existed from the previous century.
