We got this amazing sunset our last night in Flatey. This is around midnight and everyone was getting ready for bed. I would have love to take this image with different foreground but a house full of children means that sometimes you have to make the best of what you got :). Did process this one very little.

I´ve been on and off here on flickr past weeks because of travelling. Wish you all a great sunday.

Eyjafjallajökull - erupting

Couple of hours ago a volcanic eruption started in Eyjafjallajökull - thought to be on the north east side of the glacier even close to or on Fimmvörðuháls. This is the south side of the glacier. At this moment people are being moved from the area for safety. I hope that this is only a small eruption that will not effect the people living in this area.
No people are thought to be in danger at the moment.

I spent a lot of time in Þórsmörk as a guide and a guard when I was a teenager and a young woman. As I have written here before Þórsmörk is my favorite place in Iceland and I hope that this eruption will not have serious effect on the area.

This is shot less than a month ago. Last eruption in Eyjafjallajökull started in 1821 and ended in 1823. Eruptions in Eyjafjallajökull are thought to start rather mildly and then to increase. This morning it is clear that this is only a small eruption and hopefully it will continue that way. It is between Eyjafjöllujökull and Mýrdalsjökull, in an area called Fimmvörðuháls.

The people in the image are hikers that had hiked from Skógar up to Fimmvörðuháls. It was concerning that some of the hikers we met were not in physical form for such a difficult hike or had the right equipment for it. The weather on Fimmvörðuháls can change quickly and can get extremely bad. Fimmvörðuháls is located between two glaciers, Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull.

Coming to the eruption site had a big ,,wow" factor for me. It is impossible to describe the feeling of being near such a powerful site. For me it was amazing to see how the landscape had change. This is the older eruption site.

I will get a close look at the eruption site tomorrow but perhaps not as close as I would have liked after yesterday events. It is better though to be safe then sorry.

Það var farið að hvessa all hressilega þegar þessi mynd er tekin. Var búin að koma þrífætinum í þokkalegt skjól milli tveggja bíla en svo þurfti náttúrulega annar bíllinn að fara svo að skjólið varð lítið.

I´m leaving next weekend to visit Denmark. We´re going to stay there for two weeks, visiting friends and do some other important stuff :). I´m going to be rather busy the next because of that. I need to do lots of things regarding preparation. I don´t how much time I´ll have to be on flickr.
